Works For Me Wednesday-Lunch Notes

lunch box

* "I love you from the top of your head to the bottom of your 'pinky' toe"

* "Today, I am praying for you and thinking about you...Have a great day!"

* "I am counting the minutes till you get home....I have a great afternoon snack, planned"

* "Knock, knock! Who's there? Orange. Knock, Knock! Who's there?Orange. Knock, Knock! Who's there? Banana...arent't you glad I didn't say 'orange'?"

{WHAT IS THIS?} Lunch notes. Honestly, packing lunch for my kids needs creativity and planning. One doesn't like sandwiches, one doesn't like juice boxes, Another dislikes lunch meat, One will never eat "string cheese or yogurt"...my goodness, by the time you put their list together..you can serve "crackers and water".

But, one thing I do love is putting in a lunch note. I sometimes put in a joke, or a "I love you XXoo" or one of the above. I have even done a crossword puzzle for my son. My kids love to see a note in their box. The weeks when life gets busy and I am doing great just making lunches..they will ask for a "note"! The ideas are endless from fun stickers, a curly straw, hershey kisses with a note attached.

Putting in a "lunch" note works for me and my kids! It's a special way to say "I love you!"

Oh lady those are so fun aren't they? My mom used to smooch all over a napkin and write a little note. I loved it! I think I need to do it more often for my kiddos.

Sometimes I'll just buy them something fun and stick it on their beds for when they come home... a little after school surprise. Great to hear what what's workin for ya! Heaven knows I need more ideas to work for me!

My kids are grown now but told me they loved opening their lunch when they were young and finding a note from me~ I sometimes put a note in my husbands lunch to this day... Everyone loves to feel loved. He in return leaves me notes on our toilet paper and on my steering wheel etc etc...The other day I looked up while in the bath and there was a note on a heart shaped post it on our towel holder. (He knows I love baths and take at LEAST one a day!)
You can never go wrong with a note can you?~♥ Love how you leave jokes and crossword puzzles, too cute!

My kids (in their 30's) still remember the little notes I stuck in their lunches. Fun memories. Mimi

Awh! My mom put those in my lunch when I was in grade school. I loved getting those notes, it always made me feel special! Now I leave notes for my husband by his cell phone before I go to bed so he sees it in the morning since I am sleeping when he leaves.

Very cool! I loved when my mom did that for me when I was little. Your kids will share that with their's when they get older, so that is something very special. I love it!

That's such a cute idea. I do that for my husband sometimes as my kids are homeschooled. But I can relate to the crackers and water thing lol.

I did the same thing when my girls were small. In fact, Brittany still has all of hers in a box in her closet. Reading this post brought all those memories back to me...so I stuck a note in each of their lunches for today. They'll both probably come home and say, "Mom, that was so embarrassing! Why did you put a note in my lunch?" Oh, well, at least I'll get an A for effort, right?

I have actually done this for my husband. He usually eats his lunch in his classroom (he's a teacher) so I have added a little note here and there to make him smile in the middle of the day!

Found my way to you from another blog. I love this post. I used to always put special notes in my boys lunch when they were little or cut their sandwich in unusual shapes. I know they secretly loved it : ) Hey you think that I can still stick a note in my 23 year olds lunch who just started with an accounting firm...he is taking lunch these days. I think I may just do that.
Love your blog I will be back...stop by The Nuthouse one day and say hi!!!

I always did put notes in the lunchboxes. That makes a special memory for you and the children.

Sandy Toes, thank you for the reminder. I had not done this in a long time. Just ran and put one in my 16 year old son's lunch sack. He will say it's lame - but secretly he will like it. :)

You have got to be the most thoughtful Mother ever.
Really. I have put in a note or two over the years....but they don't take lunch anymore!!!!

SO SWEET! My mom used to leave me notes on my lunch napkins, loved it!

Just packed Jack's lunch...too young to understand a note but very soon I will be doing this. A very special part of a child's day.

What a great idea! My kids are at the ages now where they would find a note "humiliating." (to use their language, sigh...)

Elizabeth said...

Love that. I do that from time to time but it is usually just an I Love You on a napkin. I think it embarasses my son. So maybe a little creativity will be less mushy. Thanks for the great idea!

Sandy,

This is such a wonderful idea. My cousin's wife used to do this for her husband/my cousin, but she would tuck love notes in his sock drawer or Bible (he's a minister), and she would say, "Dearest one, I just wanted to say, "I Love You.... please remember to... I am so blessed to have you as my husband! I love you to pieces!" Nothing like some positive reinforcement! :-)

I love that your children have these love notes in their lunches. You are such a good mother! Kudos to you! :-)

XO,

Sheila

Fantastic ideas! What fun for the children when they open their lunch sacks. Now don't get too good at it or when they go off to work you'll still be doing it!! HA!
When my son was little I would some times pack 2 napkins, one I would write a note on. He started junior high so now there are no more packed lunches. I can't say I miss them!!

Darlene said...

Ooooo I have to start doing that for Lexi...she would LOVE it! Great idea!

I do this too. It started with Jenna the kindergartener and then Julia my 6th grader saw what I was doing and wanted one too. Yesterday Julia told me all her friends were jealous that her mom writes her note! I'm not sure what Ross my senior in high school would think though...

Lunch notes are the best. I always make notes for the first week of school... lunch time on that week can always feel lonely... Thanks for the reminder, I haven't done them lately.. and so glad to know that my kids aren't the only ones who need separate lunches... one wants one thing the others something else... I am SURE my mom didn't make my brother and sister 4 separate lunches!!!

I always stick notes in Kayla's lunch box. She loves getting little things. Also there is something called kidsfuncards.com. They sell lunch box cards. They range from riddles, to little weird facts, etc. We have some of these to change things up a little. Kayla said the kids get a kick out of them.

My mom always did that for me, and I do it for my kids. (My five-year old keeps them all!) (Are you reading my mind or something??? I wrote a post about that while in Florida and somehow deleted it...) I hope you don't mind if I mention the lunch notes too in a bit-my kids were telling me how they are disappointed if I don't do it!)
I found a book of them at the Christian Book store-very neat idea!

Cute lunch notes!!! We did that too when the kids were little. My hubby has always liked to pack lunches. He'd do notes on occasion but on April fools Day he will wrap their sandwiches about six times!

It made them smile and made the kids at the lunch table laugh as they watched my guys try to unravel their lunches in time to consume them during lunch period.

Maybe at 15 and 17 their not too old to get a note..........

I'm not looking forward to packing lunches next year, but I am looking forward to putting notes in her lunchbox! I still remember the few times my mom did that for me--I always was so excited!

I love lunch notes too. Too bad Kaish buys lunch at school this year. He said it is 'much cooler'. I still try to stick little notes in his homework folder once in a while. I just love this kid of mine! Love him like crazy! I love how you love your kids. It makes me smile!

My Mom always did this for me when I was little, and I have always written notes for Nick....it is like a little tradition!!

I don't know about you, but at night when I ask Nick if he is buying or packing the next day and his says he is buying....I do a HAPPY DANCE!!

How sweet! My kids eat hot lunch at school and the hubby comes home for lunch.
So if I leave a note I do it when the bathroom mirror is all steamy from a shower and the next morning when the hubster takes his shower there's a note from me. :)

That is so funny. Whenever I pack a lunch for my hubby, I include a little love note. Sometimes I write the words to songs about love. I am going to use some of your ideas. Thanks for sharing!

This is such a great idea! I bet the recipient of the note is all smiles!

I started putting notes in my daughter's lunches this year...I got a mixed reaction on them. She's in Kindergarten and a beginner reader...I think I'll try again. It seems like such a sweet idea. I wish I was good at coming up with funny jokes!

You're such an AWESOME Mom! How sweet are you to include a little love note to your littles? I bet they appreciate that more than you know. I sneak little notes in my husband's lunch or his work notebooks...its fun nd he likes it when he finds one.
