She never stops surprising me!

My middle daughter, well, there are many words that could describe her...she is full of life! Honestly, I could write a book on her. Her red, bouncy curly hair speaks it all! Over the weekend, my daughter called my husband up to our bedroom...her voice was all excited. So he went up there and all I heard was "Your mother is going to FREAK!". He came down and told me that my daughter had engraved in our beautiful master bedroom furniture "I love you Dad".

What really put the cherry on top...is that she was proud of it. I did not go up and look till that afternoon b/c I needed some time to gather and cool! At night, I talked with her about it and she truly thought she was doing something good. I never knew a child could bring me to tears so often, truly baffle me where I am speechless and bring so much joy all in one minute!

I have not found a gray hair yet, but when I do I am naming it after her!

Now I don't feel so bad. My daughter came down and said, "are you going to be mad at me?" Never a good sign...she had drawn on the wall? What!!?????!!! is with that?
So sorry about the furniture.

Oh my, how frustrating. SOME DAY you will really laugh about this, but right now... yikes. Have a great week!

Oh that makes me laugh!!!
Honestly though, in a few years when she's a teenager, you will cherish that little carving far more than you know!

Oh my goodness, that is so funny! She really is such a cutie! But oh boy, I understand how you feel; I would feel the same! Bless your heart! :)

Oh dear! This one sent my heart racing a bit. I could so see my youngest doing something like this. Yikes!!! So sorry mom!

Oh my gosh. 2 things! I am SO glad you don't have gray hair yet. I am 32 and I have it ALL OVER MY HEAD! GRRRRRRRRRRRR. Kaishon carved some words into our table. Our $1000 new table. I started to be mad, but something stopped me. I realized that someday, when he is 18 and going off to college I will look at that and LOVE that he wrote on the table because it will remind me that he loved me so much and even though he will be gone, I will always have that to remember his childhood by. Was her Dad mad, or did he think it was cool that he got a shout out on the furniture : )?

Ummmm...I don't quite know how I would have handled that one! Like you, I probably would have had to take some time, SERIOUS time, to regroup and cool down from the shock of it all. However, how could you get mad at a smiling face like hers? Just wouldn't happen...no way!

Hopefully, one day, you'll look back on this incident and laugh. I think that's so precious that she thought she was doing something good.

Oh, and you've been "Boo-ed"! Go to my blog and find a special little surprise. :)

That is too funny and sad all at the same time. I remember my oldest son proudly showing me his black crayon masterpiece that he had drawn all over my mother-in-laws hallway. What do you do? ;-)

My son engraved his name on the bottom of our coffee table when he was about 4. I love knowing it is there.

One day, you will treasure her little handwriting!

Not so funny right now but trust me – one day you will love that little love note she left in your furniture. As my wonderful boss tells me all the time “it’s just stuff”.

Maybe it has to do with the (lovely) red hair!! ;) When I was around pre-school age I took a pin during naptime and proceeded to carve a beautiful mountain scene complete with clouds and birds into a wooden headboard! It took up pretty much the entire width of the headboard, and yes, mom did FREAK!!! ;) Hey, as a fellow red-headed rascal, maybe she's just extra creative!! LOL

I'm guessing you'll want to patch it with some wood filler and stain, but at least take a few pics first!! And give an extra hug or 10 to your rascally sweetheart!

Blessings,
Stacey

Yikes! Maybe this is one of those "I'm bringing this incident up at your wedding" moments.
I'm sure she understands now, why this isn't a good thing.
My son, at the age of 2, was mad at us for disciplining him (I can't remember what he did) and he went into our home office, climbed on the desk, grabbed the scissors and cut the computer wires and the strings on the -custom made, cherry, wood-blinds. Oh joy!
Take care. I'm looking forward to your political posts :-)

So what did you do? It was smart not to go look right away. I think I would freak out and need some time, too! She is the most adorable child, though...must make it hard to stay mad!

I think our daughters are of one soul... that is totally something she would have done... actually she still might do it. I am learning daily how to love that child properly, she takes a lot of "special" parenting skills ;)

She is a cutie. I think all kids write on the furniture at some point. It's just one of those lessons they have to learn the hard way. :o)

At least her graffiti was sweet!

What a cute daughter you have! We love her hair.

We hope she doesn't do this again, but it is kind of cute.

Oh, my goodness.

Kids...and the things they do. Believe me, you will get a grey hair and name it after her...probably MORE than 1 grey hair will be named after her!!

You handled it just right.

Me I would have freaked !!

I had a cousin that did things like that, one time his father punished him for something and told him to go to his room, well before he went to his room he went into my Uncles closet and pooped in his slipper.

My cousin grew up to be a cop !!

Don't you just love em?!
I am in awe of your calmness!
I was looking at that thinking....I wonder how much sanding that will take; maybe she could just paint it;OrI wonder if it was valuable? The funny thing is it isn't even mine!
She sure is darn cute tho!And what a sweet thought!

OMGOOOODNESS! OK, reading this it's easy to say, "awww so wrong, but sooo sweet" but if that were happening to me, I WOULD freak! lol

Oh the things I have to look forward to! Thanks for at least showing me that I need to brace myself. ;-)

My 7 year old nephew carved his name into my brother's brand new Ford F150 last summer. What are these kids thinking?

edie said...

This happened to me about 12 years ago with my now 18 year old son. Now it's my favorite nightstand! It doesn't look quite as massive as your designs. So sorry.

Stacey said...

Wow my son did something similar to his own brand new furniture when he was about 5. My husband claims that those things are part of the story of our lives. Sometimes it's hard to remember that but a few days down the road you realize that it's true. :)

Suz said...

To me, that is so sweet! Just think....when she is all grown up and on her own you will still have the furniture to remember her sweet gesture.

Amanda said...

bless her heart and definately yours too!

Thanks so much for your comment on my family blog! That was really sweet of you and I'm especially flattered since coming here to this beautiful chic blog that you have got going on! Wow! Thanks again.

Monica said...

Well if she was going to do it, she could at least included mom as well.

Well, I can't say what I would have done since I don't have kids. I am pretty particular about my stuff so I probably would have been mad. Not for long though.... she is too cute!

Gretchen said...

Oh, girlie. I would have 'freaked' too.

Just remember, in 20 years, when they are gone and you are missing them, it will be a sweet reminder of these precious (and a little crazy) days. One day it will probably be you favorite piece of furniture.

Tardevil said...

Oh, I am SO THERE WITH YOU! That's why I have 1! I don't believe I could survive any more...as much as I love her!

Anonymous said...

Ouch! And you can't even be truly, completely 100% mad at her. How frustrating!

heather said...

Someday it will be funny.

Darlene said...

WOW...I think you handled well with calming down before seeing it and then having a calm discussion. I was much older when I had my daughter so I wonder if I can still blame all my gray hairs on her????...lol

nikkicrumpet said...

OH MY....You'd want to wring her neck and hug her at the same time. I have a feeling years from now you'll laugh about this....but by then she'll be in her teen years and there will be more things to cry about lol

Anonymous said...

Oh no! This is terribly sweet and funny! I mean, I'm sure not for you, if I had nice bedroom furniture I might be a little upset, but at least it wasn't cuss words-like my students at school carve in to their desks!

Tardevil said...

Oh by the way, I can't remember where you live, but in the south, we'd have a "hissy fit" about that engraving thing! But then...what good does it do?
