Thursday Thankful...Friends That Shop till You Drop!

Where has Sandy Toes been???Well, this weekend I was gone (I know...two weekends almost in a row but that is just how it all worked out) and went shopping with my "old" playgroup. We met about 3 hours away...stayed at the Hilton Garden...dined...shopped..dined again..shopped....took in a movie...shopped...what a wonderful weekend!

And you know what???The shopping and great food was not the best part. It was spending time with my "Classy Clowns". Before, we moved I had been in this playgroup for years....we have watched our kids grow. It was not the normal playgroup...we would start at 9:30am at a "house"...eat lunch together...around 3:00 one of us would go pick up the older kids...come back and around 5:00 do dinner!!! We had husbands who traveled...worked long hours...golfed and we made the best of it.

(Picture of My Friend getting her "new" makeup look at Mac in Sacs)

This is a one-of-a kind group...it's been almost a year since my family moved and I still miss them as much as I did the day the moving truck pulled out. True friends are hard to find...we are all different with different personalities but TOGETHER we have the "Housewives of Orange County" beat. These ladies are real, make you feel like mother of the year even when they have seen you at your worse, love your kids like their own, can make you laugh so hard you need "Depends", they are honest even when it hurts. They will sit in an Emergency room for hours with 8 kids who are crawling the walls to be by your side; they will drop everything to gather for a coffee to listen;they are honest with who they are, what they have, where they want to go and if they will "get there"

It was so hard to say "goodbye" on Sunday afternoon. For me it had to be quick and fast or I would cry like a "baby"!A couple of them said how much they miss me at breakfast and I couldn't even respond b/c I knew where it would go. Even though I have moved, the moment I am back with them..I feel like I did when we lived in the same town...it's like we left off and just started up at the next sentence we left off.

I miss them so much...I miss the relationships my kids had with their kids. Sometimes, my middle child will cry b/c she misses her friends and sometimes I just want to sit right next to her and CRY even harder!!!Everyone says give it a year...it's been a little over the year! I feel the same..I miss them more b/c I realize "what I had"! It was rare and "few" have it!

Sorry this not my normal type of "postings" but I am not good with words in "person". So I hope they will read it even though they NEVER leave a comment! hee hee!!! This Thursday Thankful I am thankful for friends especially ones who will give up a December weekend for us all to be together!

p.s. Thanks for another great weekend! New York City Next YEAR!!!Save Up!

I can totally understand why you are so thankful for those kind of friends! I still keep in touch with a group that I became friends with 16 years ago when my girls were toddlers...our husbands all travelled and we were each others life line. Our kids are all in high school and college now but we still get together when we can and it is like we were never apart.

Your weekend looks so fun! I think I need a girl's weekend. I went to a movie and dinner with my sister last night and I thought I died and gone to heaven!

It looks like you had such a good time. You are very fortunate to have friends like that! I have yet to find any that are that selfless. I am sorry that you had to move but I think it's wonderful you all stay in touch.

Sandy - I am right there with you! My friends mean everything to me as they support me when my husband is away and they love my children as much as I love theirs. There is nothing to compare to a good girlfriend!

Sounds like you have a great group of buddies! That is so hard to come by, so cherish each and every moment you have together!

Makes me think of when we lived in North Carolina. I became involved in a playgroup because Brittany was around 2 years old. It was one of the best things that's ever happened to me. We'd meet at someone's house once or twice a week. The kids would play and all the moms would sit around and compare notes about our kids and hubbies. We had a real connection. Unfortunately, we moved after only a year and a few months. The other ladies all moved away, too, eventually. I've kept in touch with some of them, but it's never been the same. It was so wonderful while it lasted, so count yourself very lucky.

A trip next year to New York City??? Now, that's going to be fun!!!

What fun memories and fabulous friends. At least you are close enough to still be able to go see them occasionally. It is so hard to find good, true friends.

(We got your Christmas card yesterday-LOVE it! The kids are adorable!)
Your son looks so mature, and such a sweet older brother. The girls are just so sweet looking!!! LOVE it!

I understand. We moved here 7 years ago and I am still sad sometimes because I miss my friends and family. My son really gets sad. He has made good friends here but he misses Tennesse really bad. He will graduate in 2010 and has let us know that he is out of here. He is looking at colleges in The South. Vandy and UNC are topping his list.

Oh Sandy Toes.
I feel your pain. Each time we move with the AF I have to find good friends that can keep me sane and it is so hard to leave them when we move again. I am so glad you keep in touch and are still close enough that you can do things like this. How lovely!
What a fun playgroup you girls must have had! And, b/c Momma's were happy while Daddies were working hard, the kiddos were happy, too! Win win, right?!?
Merry December Miss Shopper!!! ;)

That is awesome, it about makes me cry. I miss some of my old friends that we have moved away from. It is special to have this sort of thing in life it doesn't happen very often. I'm hoping to find a few friends like this to have these meaningful caring friendships. Looks like so much fun...

Debbie,

What an amazing post! This truly sums up exactly how I feel as well. I am VERY blessed to have all 4 of you in my life. I think each one of us brings something completely unique to the group. When one of us is missing, it does not seen whole! It is very rare that you do find TRUE friends who are 100% honest and REAL about who they are. With this group, what you see is what you get! You can make mistakes and admit your shortcomings and there is no judgement. Instead, we laugh WITH each other or cry with each other! After laughing or crying, we will jump in to help each other. I know that when we are 80 years old, we will still all be friends and planning crazy adventures.

Debbie, we do miss you each and every day. Every time we are together, we have a moment of silence for you. We always say, "Debbie Glosson would say...". Or, Debbie would say right now "You know what would be fun." There is a hole in our playgroup that will NEVER be filled. That is...until you move back some day.

Thanks for a great weekend girls! I just wish someone, other than me, would have helped with Ann Claire in the middle of the night (ha.ha.ha)

Love you,

Debbie Teper

Hey Debbie!

As Kelly (and Dolly) would say: laughter through tears is my favorite emotion! I'm so grateful I got to share some of the closeness you all have for each other when we were all on the Exec Board together. I truly looked forward to those meetings at your house.

Many blessings to you!
