Do you Loofah?

Loofahs! Those netty, wirey sponges hanging from a string in your shower. My entire family is a "loofah" family. Everyone has their OWN! We have them in pink, black and even in the shape of animals! I love my loofah but I am VERY protective of it!

FAMILY RULE:

WE DO NOT SHARE LOOFAHS, EVER!

If I even think, that someone has used my loofah I throw it out! Believe me I know because...

*It's dripping and I have not even stepped in the shower

*My loofah should smell like pomegrante not L'oreal for Kids watermelon

*"I do not have red hair"

Well, I was just reading that you need to hot, steam wash them or wash machine them EVERY week b/c bacteria can build. I guess I thought they were getting washed in the shower. Who knew???

So now besides my piles and piles of laundry a week...I now have a load of "loofahs" to do!

Do you "loofah"?

Oh my... well, I DID, until now! Gosh, are they as easy to wash as a washcloth? Because, if not, then I'll just go back to my good old washrag!

I love loofah's but when I smell my husbands body wash I get soooo mad. Plus he leaves it all soapy. I think that he does it on purpose! ;)
I dont wash mine weekly I just get a new one every month, maybe I should wash it weekly instead.

WHAT??? You mean I have to start washing my loofah now? No way! I never knew there could be a problem with bacteria! Oh, I'm going to toss mine in some hot water ASAP! Thanks for the info! Have a super day!

They are very cute but I have to admit that I'm a washcloth kinda girl. My daughter has started using one & loves it.

Body scrubs for me! While cleaning out college girls bathroom cabinets after she went back to school I found 5...I think they were all the rage for teen b-days a few years ago!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I I really like yours and the music. I "loofah" and did not know you were supposed to wash them. oops!

Such cute loofahs! I probably need to loofah. Alas, a wascloth is my bath pal (and sometimes an Oil of Olay cloth for added exfoliation). I was concerned about how to clean a loofah, but if you can wash them, I might consider it. :-)

Xo,

Sheila :-)

I don't loofah...but I do love a great smelling body wash. My favorite is the vanilla lavendar from Bath and Body Works!

Thanks for that loofah tip! I thought they just cleaned themselves in the shower, too! Brett has the ducky one.

I loofah but am not quite as protective of mine. Occasionally I think my darling hubby has gotten ahold of it.

Cute -- I didn't know you were supposed to clean them too -- figured the shower was doing that!

Have a great day.

I love loofahs, but the bacteria thing has always scared me, so I use these great knitted washclothes that work so well.

I love the piggy -- too cute!

Oh, my gosh I had no idea they were suppose to get washed! I thought it was getting washed right along with me! I do THINK that natual loofah sponges are suppose to be good because they don't grow bacteria. Don't quote me on that! That's just what they told me at the sponge docks in Tarpon Springs (FL). Thanks for sharing!

I totally loofah and feel the same way - NO SHARING! I have never cleaned them, though.

"Hello... It's Me Again..." said...

I love loofahs, but stopped using them after Oprah did a show on germs. When they showed what was growing inside them, I threw it away immediately. I never thought to wash it weekly. I would imagine you could wash them in hot water and that should kill the germs.

I'm a germ-o-phobe!!!

Tara said...

No loofahs here and just for that reason! The bacteria thing bothered me!

Wendy said...

That is funny! I used to loofah...now I'm a washcloth girl...but I do appreciate me a loofah. Just haven't invested in any lately.

We don't loofah anymore. Don't really know why. Now we are just wash cloth users. Except for my husband, he's a hand washer. Ewww! And he knows better to come anywhere near my bar soap!!

Darlene said...

We do loofah but I didn't know you were supposed to wash them either. I wonder if you could throw them in the microwave like you can a sponge to kill germs and bacteria?

tiarastantrums said...

yeah I heard a couple of years ago that loofahs were germ freak s- so I stopped using them completely! But I'm with you- NO SHARING!!!!!!!

Definitely Loofah! I left mine at the farm at Thanksgiving and guess what? I realized it has been so long since I have used a washcloth - I felt icky!

I did not know that about washing them. I always rinse it, but did not know the other. Thanks!

This was so funny! I get annoyed when mine gets used too! I mean, come on, everyone has their own personal loofah! Do 'they' really need to use mine? Hmmmmmmmmmm. I am going to kiss my little loofah stealer goodnight. Delightful post!

Becky said...

I don't loofa... I pumice. LOL, just my feet though. Oh, and it has nothing to do with germs.

Amy said...

I rarely loofa, but have run it through the dishwasher before with a non-food type load (plastic bins, trashcans, etc.). I figured that if you're supposed to put your kitchen sponge in the dw, why not the loofa?

Kasey said...

We use them too. I've just been throwing them out, now I know I can save them for a bit longer, thanks!

Jennifer said...

Ok I don't know why but I am compelled to tell you that is not a loofah. A loofah is this used to be alive, like a sponge. The shower gel thingies are called Poofs.

http://www.beecrowbee.com/ispa/x_loofah_0042.jpg
that's what loofahs look like, and yes I use em! :)

Dennis and Leslie said...

Ohhhh, no!!! No loofa-sharing allowed in this house! Everyone keeps their loofas to themselves!

Georgia Girl said...

Weird I never knew to wash them...I am like you, think since you use them to wash with they are clean but then again to think about it we wash washcloths...so to answer your question...yes we do lots of loofah adn I am also like you...no one uses mine and if they do and I find out who...oh my and if not I usually chunck it and buy another one...but after a few yells they have learned...no messing with Mrs. Loofah! lol...love this post!
