"Mom, will it snow????"{Stir and Season Saturday}

We have been here for over a year. We use to live in the snow "belt" of Cleveland area...we had so much snow sometimes...we didn't know where to put it. Well, now there is not ONE flake of snow where we live and my kids are having withdrawal...they stare out the window.. waiting..waiting... but nothing!

My kids love to play in the snow....one thing we loved to make was "SNOW ICE CREAM". You must make it when it "just" snows...pure white..barely touched the ground!!! It just like making ice cream but the kids think it is so VERY special and fun!

Snow Ice Cream

1 gallon of "snow"

1 cup of white sugar

1 T vanilla extract

2 cups whole milk

Directions: When it starts to snow place a large, clean bowl outside to catch the snow. Stir together sugar and vanilla to taste, then stir in the milk just enough to make it "like" ice cream. Serve and enjoy! We have added chocolate chips for a special added "touch"!

Hoping for a SNOW ICE CREAM "day" , soon!

Sounds so yummy....but after hitting 77 today and a high of 80 tomorrow...I don't think I will trying any soon. Where are you living now?

Oh my gosh!! My late hubby and my PD used to make Snow Cream when it would snow. {We hardly ever have snow anymore.} But I guarantee my PD will get a tear in her eye {and I in mine} every time she thinks about Snow Cream. Thanks for this post. It brought back wonderful memories :-)

I'm right here in the cold Ohio snowbelt and my kids love to make this! We haven't had a real good, deep snow yet...but I'm sure it will be coming soon. ;)

I could have really made this last night. Now it is almost gone. How fun.

We rarely have snow here or at least enough to make snow cream but when we do it is SOOO yummy. I grew up with my mom making it when we did have big snows. Great recipe and so easy!!

Becky said...

Sounds yummy... the snow here has reached its expiration date though. As a kid I would just add some milk and a hot coco packet. Those were the days. :-p

Hi Sandy ... I found your blog via the SITS site. I'm new to SITS and the post today encouraged me to visit the two comments prior to mine and leave a comment. So, that's what I'm doing.

I'm thrilled to have your blog. It's really wonderful!

We live in Virginia and get a little snow ... I can't wait until February (when the snow normally comes) to make the Snow Ice Cream with my three-year-old son. Thank you for the recipe.

Happy New Year!
Missy

I remember when I liked snow too. It used to be fun until I had to shovel and drive in it :)
Visiting from SITS, you were in front of me

Oh Sandy, just a couple days ago, I was commenting about Snow Ice Cream. When I was a kid, my Mom made that all the time. It just has a flavor all it's own. But, then that was when we had a safer enviroment, might light up now. LOL

Hugs,
Chris

I'm wishing that we had the 70 degrees some of your commenters are having. Am afraid those temps are a long ways off!

Here in Seattle we have had more snow then ever this year. It is a shock because usually we never get snow, just rain, rain, rain!
I still have snow on my lawn it's just unreal. We came here from a place that snows all the time so my kids are like yours...They love the snow and have withdrawals when it doesn't snow in winter!
In fact my son is up snowboarding right now!
I do hope you guys get some snow this year and can make your Snow Cream! So cute!

What a fun recipe. It doesn't snow here very much, just occasionally. Usually we end up getting ice. Today it is supposed to hit 80 and then by Monday we could be getting ice and maybe a bit of snow...what crazy weather!

Jillene said...

I love this recipe!! We get tons and tons of snow so I will be making it for sure!!

Ruby Red Slippers said...

That is crazy! I am just checking comments on my blog, and read yours. So I click over to your blog and you posted about "snow ice cream" too! Is that crazy, or what???
We must think alike!!!

Oh man, now this makes me want to have snow! But I don't here in Atlanta we will get some. I need to tuck this away for when we move to a cold place again....my kids would go crazy over this! Have fun with yours.

I am not a homeschooler, did you start last Fall? I was reading way back and saw that you had started. I totally admire those that do but I could not do it. OK, back to work!!!! Happy day!

We used to get enough snow in TN to make snow ice cream. We don't have snow days here in TX but sometimes we have flood days. It will not rain for weeks on end and then all of a sudden, it rains 8 inches in one day. There are some areas prone to flooding so we have flood days. I am not sure what kind of treat you could make from a flood.

I used to LOVE snow cream as a kid! My mom made it for me and it was so good! Thanks for helping me remember this yummy treat! Just to make you feel better, we've yet to have a single snowflake fall here, too, but we are living in the south. It's way too warm for any of the white stuff to fall...I'm bummed!

Oh how I love snow ice cream! Did you know that there is a Popsicle that is called 'snow cream' that tastes just like it?

I may have to buy some! LOL

Hello Sandy, Please forgive my boldness, but I am doing a bit of blog surfing to invite people over to my blog for my 2nd annual giveaway. Rest assured, this isn't some kind of gimmick. It's just my way of celebrating. I am giving away a free caricature drawn by me, plus a few other prizes. I hope that you will do me the honor of coming over to take a look.

Wow, I so remember the snow ice cream. Growing up in Indiana, I made it lots of times. Now living in Georgia, we have no snow. And my poor girls wish so much for snow. Stone Mountain in Atlanta is actually having "Snow Mountain" right now. Man made snow, inner tubing and snowman-making. I'm taking them in the next few weeks. Cannot wait to see their reactions!

Sounds tasty! It's also very good with hot syrup that freezes and becomes crunchy why it hits the snow.
