"On My Soapbox"

soapbox

{a new theme feature}

On Sunday, my husband and I left church in a solemn mood...we were talking about the role of "church" in government. In our 'humble' opinion...there is no role "left"! The church has completely become silent all in the name of "feel good love " philosophy. Churches don't speak out on much anymore...

We have been reading that the American Revolution started and really "geared" up b/c the churches were speaking out so the people "acted" out what they heard from the pulpit...

To be completely honest, I am no activist and I really have no desire to be one. To be really honest, I would rather be talking to my girlfriend on the phone then calling my senators office {every week lately}...I would rather be "thrift and antique" shopping than going to rallies or protests.

However, like never before I have a heavy heart for our country and our children....our roots...our foundation....

Glenn Beck had a special on the "state" of our country. One thing that struck me the most is that he said "People need to start talking...talking together about what is going on." Start reading....reading about how this country began and WHY the forefathers did what they did b/c they knew this young country could self-destruct.

Driving home on Sunday...we decided to go downtown to a protest going on all over the country "Tea Parties"...it was jammed...packed! There were so many great signs and so many passionate people that love our country. People from all walks of life...incomes...professions....it was amazing.

It was refreshing~

I could go on and on but I want to know what you think....

How are you feeling about the our "country"? What direction do you see us heading towards?

Most important...have you thought about how YOU can get involved?

p.s. I also want to tell you about a new blog that has started...it is for conservative women...it is wonderful and mainly informative...important things to read! I urge all my readers to take the time and read this blog.....click here!

I am confident that we are in the last days. All of this was prophesied in the bible. I'm looking forward to being raptured out of this mess! After the rapture...7 yrs of tribulation will begin. Pray that people will wake up and get right with God before they have to suffer God's wrath!

Oh, you have no idea how relieved I am to read this post you have written! My husband and I have been so discouraged lately about what is going on in our government, in our country! I listen to conservative talk radio, which is good, because otherwise I'd probably go crazy. (Mainstream news drives me crazy!)
My sister and I have been talking about starting a blog, we just feel so concerned for our country right now! I am with you on everything you wrote!

Hi Sandy,
My husband and I watched Glenn Beck on Friday and both got teary eyed-How can you not? I do think our country is on and has been on the wrong track for quite some time...I do hope this movement really takes off and America gets back to what it was on 9/12~People couldn't run to God fast enough, Families once again were important! It reminds me so much of in the bible when Moses was heading the people out and they saw God was with them and doing miracles, they would change and run/turn to him but so fast their hearts would harden and they would become complacent and start sinning even worse... Goes to show you we humans haven't changed any at all doesn't it? To think we think we are so much more advanced then biblical times!HA!
I'm excited to see what your new blog is about. Keep up the good work.
Robin~♥

Thanks for taking this topic on. I have been very concerned since last fall about all things God getting slammed from our government.

I have never in my whole life spent so much time watching the news. Conservative news that is. Can't take the other stuff. Most of my friends seem pretty apathetic. Maybe they are all just trying not to say anything bad...you know if you can't say something good...

I am heart sick here and I too have been emailing my brains out to the government. Good for Glenn Beck I wish I had watched his Friday show.

I am all about a tea party!

Our country is definitely taking a downward spiral. It's really sad!

THANK YOU, my Conservative sister, for bringing all of this to everyone's attention! In my opinion, our country is rapidly taking a nosedive and things just seem to be completely out of control! The jobless rate, the stock market plunging...need I say more??? Times are bad and I think they're going to get worse...unless, we, THE PEOPLE, stand up and say that we've had enough and start demanding some changes! The days of keeping our mouths closed for fear of offending someone are long gone! We need to make our voices known!

I will most definitely check out the blog you mentioned. Kudos to Glenn Beck...sounds like he was spot on!

I have to admit I never considered myself to be a conservative...until now. I am deeply concerned where our country is headed- but I have no idea what to do. I'm very thankful that my husband still has a job!

I love it when you're on your "soapbox". I love that you have a passion for our country & what is RIGHT instead of just trying to keep everyone happy & not talking...shhh (politics).
I am so worked up about this subject & just get so frustrated by everything that's happening right now. We do need to start talking & acting. BTW....have you seen ANY coverage of these tea parties on the national news stage (besides FOX)? Of course not, but if the other side was protesting something - that's all you'd hear.
Ok - I'm all worked up now, better run. Thanks for all you do.

I had my parents over on Monday night, and we had the SAME discussion that you all had. We also were talking about Glen Beck-I was amazed to know the Boston Tea Party was due to the people protesting the 5% TAX RATE- HOLY COW!!! I think we pay 35-to almost 40% in taxes!!! This is insane...This is a very important time in our country-and in these last days like Darlene said...

Hope you don't mind that I continued your train of thought on my post today. You got me too fired up:)
Enjoy your Wednesday.

oh girl - you know that I am the queen of getting up on my soapbox and again, you nailed this post!! Preach away, and when you come down, I'll join you for coffee. Yes, mother of all conservatives I am as well.

I agree with you wholeheartedly.
It looks like we are on a downhill spiral...not sure how a recovery at this point is going to be possible....

Wonderful post! Your images are great and I felt chills over the fact that there are more coming together against what is happening than mainstream media presents! I have been very concerned, but in the last week or so, I can't help but feel there might be some positive change coming around the corner - as long as we all keep being concerned and figuring out how to be heard! I have yet to see the Beck program, but love what I have read about it and think it was a fabulous move on Beck's part. I hope that spurs more "back to our foundation" programming and gatherings!

It is such a scary time in our country. I do hope that America can recover from this disaster. I am going to go read the new blog now.

Thank you thank you thank you. I loved the Glenn Beck show as well. We started a group here locally. We are first going to attend a Constitution study course this coming May and empower our minds. I am also reading 2 fantastic books.

I love the link you gave me too. I am beginning to view myself as a Conservative more than a Republican. I am grass roots all the way.

As an LDS person, we have been so criticized for being outspoken on some important issues. Our church buildings have been invaded and we have had serious life threatening situations with many members. Mostly over the redefining of marriage issues. But its strengthens our souls when we speak for the truth and right.

Like Glenn said - don't do the popular thing, do the right thing.

Thanks Sandy. :)

I'm with you. I suddenly find a whole new kind of motivation to get involved in what is going on in this country.

I agree with you that this new administration is lost and on the wrong path. I am on a soapbox these days as well and having a hard time sorting through it all. What I do know is that common sense should rule the day and having common sense based in your faith in God and all that is moral. Somethings happening these days are not moral no matter what religion you follow.

I too watched Glenn Beck and was so sad. My husband is away for a month and feel lost without our talks on this topic. Our country has changed so much and I am terrified for my children. Everyone is taking the don't tell anyone how you feel approach, thats crazy!!! So hard to walk the line when my husband is in the military. but let me tell you how sick i felt when Mrs. Obama took on the role for military families...watching her at Military bases made me pull my hair! SHE does not know a thing about the military!!! and i found her to be so phoney!!!
thanks for this post, you have a conservative friend!!!

I'm just curious why you want religion mixed into government. I believe the constitution states a seperation of church and state. Doesn't it bide well for a country to remain free from government interference in the way we live our lives, would you be o.k. with other religions being placed upon you and how you live your life. You see this kind of government fail all over and become corrupt and oppressive like Iran and Saudi Arabia. I guess I thought Christianity was about living like a Christian not trying to control everybody else. Food for thought

My heart is very heavy for our country. I'm speechless at the things that are going on. But, at the same time, I do know that my "redemption draweth nigh". I know that things will get worse. I still believe that Christians have a moral obligation to stand up against wrong. We do have to let our voices be heard.

I probably was the only black women in the world who voted for the OTHER black candidate on the ticket...Alan Keyes. I knew my vote wouldn't count in liberal California...so I just voted my heart...I feel we are in the last days as well. I'm praying that we get raptured...but I don't know...God might take us through some or all of it. Regardless we still WIN with the Lord...but our country will suffer God's wrath.!
Blessings.

Thank you for this EXCELLENT and NEEDED post! Here's a valuable link containing a multitude of documented information about the true history of our country and true intent of its founders: http://www.wallbuilders.com/ It has loads of material for helping us to be well informed.

vicki said...

First, our Country was founded on the basis of religion .. the Mayflower set sail for the preservation of Christ and human rights.

To say that there is a separation of Church and state is not to say that the State should operate with out Church. It states that the government can not control religion. Since that time this idea has been obscenely twisted.

Second, Keep a CLOSE EYE on the Catholic Church and the Pope. He has already told Obama if the "Freedom of Choice / or Right" abortion act goes through that ALL Catholic Churches will CLOSE! they will not sell the hospitals because that would only be aiding in abortions. When a government says that a private Catholic hospital must perform abortions if requested by a patient there is a complete loss of religious rights!! (These people should go to a public hospital then.)

WE HAVE ALMOST LOST our religious rights!!

The Catholic Churches are significantly more vocal than the 'feel good white washed wood churches' because the priests do not get a commission on the offerings.

Regardless of religious denomination I believe that you must investigate the stance that the Catholics are taking.

Plus look up Catholic Charities .. you will be surprised to know that they are the number one provider of charity services in most major cities ... the poor (mostly non Catholic beneficiaries) can not afford for Catholic Charities to pull out.

I could not give more than 100 this year because these people are biting the hand that feeds them ... literally! If this trend continues, with Catholics saying "enough is enough" then the government will be forced to provide more social aid and thus our taxes will go up.

It is a very tenuous time ...

I keep waiting for our pastor to discuss what we are facing right now. He will kind of mention it if it goes along with a subject he is preaching on, but I want a little, "We need to wakeup right now!" I want a little more, "As Christians, we need to get out the word of Christ more than ever. It is our duty to lead as many to Jesus as we can before His return." My mother and I discuss what is happening in the world now. Confusion, the growing war on Christianity, people turning from God to man for answers, people listening to false teachings(that includes Christians), the acceptance of things that are against God and on and on. I am thinking along the same lines as Darlene. I am sure that since the death and ressurection of Jesus, that many have seen things happening that make them believe His return is soon. I feel today however, there are just way too many things coming together. Thanks for the link to that website. I really, really want to go to a Tea Party. San Antonio is having one but I don't know the location yet.

In my opinion, I'm honestly wondering if this is our "wake-up call" as Christians. My husband and I are both very concerned about what is going on in our country, but like he said to me the other night "maybe this is what Christians needed to get off their rears and start doing something about it!" Too many years of complacent Christianity is what probably led to a lot of this mess.

Thanks so much for this post, Sandy Toes! We all need to come together and I truly believe blogs are a powerful tool to do just that!

You are so right! I'd rather be doing those non-controversial things like shopping, etc., too, but the time has come when we ALL must make our voices heard! We're planning on participating in a Tea Party around here, too.

Courageous post Sandy. Those who have rejected the possibility of faith often turn to other sources (the government) to be their 'savior'. This particular administration will prove to be a poor excuse for a savior, even if all goes well.

We christians must remember that we are in a land of exile. This is not our final home and though we must all faithfully perform our vocations and stand up for truth, I don't really buy into the fatalist mentality. Christ Himself lived in a very pagan culture (the Roman Empire) and christians were still able to spread the gospel.

We should be about educating ourselves and our children so that we can truly embrace what it means to be counter-cultural. The problem is I think that the church growth movement has completely embraced modern culture. It seems that the very place we should hold to our confessions, we sell out. In an effort to 'grow' the church, we sell people on everything but the gospel.

Thanks for the discussion,
edie

So glad to see more posts on this! Mine got too heated & I had to close the comments, but I'm so with you on this. We have definitely got to wake up as Christians & see what is happening in our country. I hope & pray it's not too late to turn the tide, but many of you mentioned too that we could definitely be going into the last days. Last I checked, our country is not mentioned in Biblical prophesy, so that's a big wakeup.

thanks for speaking out!

Thank you so much for talking politics! I never venture down that road on my blog because I feel like all of the wonderful female bloggers out there are gaga for Obama. (It makes me so sad) I will even check a favorite bloggers post(sometimes) from inauguration day or election day(that's how I can tell what their political views are) and almost all were walking on air those days, while I just pulled the covers up over my head.
So thank you for speaking with your beautiful conservative voice. I will try to be speaking up more with my own!
Have a wonderful day!
P.S. It warms my heart to see all the positive support that you received from this post. Maybe there really is HOPE!!
