A "Seinfield" Moment

Do your remember the show "Seinfeld"? One of My FaVoRiTeS! Sometimes, things will happen and my mom and I will say that is like "Seinfeld".

Remember the "soup nazi"...

well, I think I have a relationship with the "sushi nazi".

I have my "seasons" when I love a good, fresh piece of sushi. So sometimes for lunch I will run into our grocery store that has fresh sushi bar and pick me up some California rolls. MAYBE, I have long "seasons" b/c the sushi oriental man knows me and when I come up he says " TO THE LEFT.. CA ROLLS THERE!"

However, this day I felt like expanding my horizons...tasting something different...so instead of quickly picking up my CA rolls I glanced around to the different types of sushi.

He quickly said AGAIN " To THE LEFT...CA ROLLS THERE"...I nicely replied.."Oh I am just looking...maybe I will try something different today." He REPLIED AGAIN..."NO...CA ROLLS TO YOUR LEFT...pointing with his little cutting knife." I kinda of chuckled....AGAIN..."CA ROLLS to YOUR LEFT..RIGHT THERE...You LIKE CA ROLLS".

So I slowly grabbed my USUAL and left. I went to the dairy section and picked up some milk...I thought "Wait a Minute...I don't want CA rolls today"...so I slowly went around the store hoping he was on BREAK.!

Came up to the counter again..there he was....I said "hello"....He looked at me sternly and said "Hello.".....I didn't know what to do...so I kept on walking with my CA rolls.....

CRAzy!!!!! crAZY!

Have you ever had a "MOMENT" like this????

Oh, that is so funny! I can just imagine this little scenario playing out, and know I would have done just the same thing as you! :) I have never had a California roll before...I hope they tasted all right for you, even though it wasn't what you wanted! Maybe next time, he'll have the day off! :)

That is so funny. Of course I have moments like that. I am crazy remember :)

HA! I LOVE sushi. And now my three year old loves it too. Only I don't let him eat the raw stuff, in case there's some "bug" in it.

I'll hit up the local grocer in a pinch. Ya know when I really have a hankerin' for sushi, but can't make it to a restaurant.

If I were you, I'd tell him it's for your friend. And she prefers the spicy tuna roll! ;)

i can't believe that happened. it is so seinfeld! hilarious.

LOL, that cracks me up! I love Seinfeld, the wit and sarcasm are so me.

I think in your situation I would have taken the CA rolls and the new choice then left the CA rolls at the register claiming I decided I didn't need both. Then a courtesy clerk would have to take them back.

OR...

Ask a stranger to go pick up the new choice for me and meet me in the pet food isle. Thats what George would do ;-)

We always talk in "Sienfield" around here-I am Elaine, the bad dancer...my husband will just say, Elaine, and I know he is refering to me!"

I call my husband the Soup Nazi because he is always telling me what to do about cooking-he is usually right...but he will drive me crazy making a point about it!

I can just picture the guy in my head saying that to you! There was a Subway by my old office and we called them the "sandwich nazis" because if you did not know exactly what you wanted and quickly they were irritated! I would find myself rehearsing my order in my head before I got to the order line! Funny how we let these people intimidate us!

Yarni Gras! said...

my husband and I loved that episode! We STILL say 'soup nazi' but we also put other words in place of 'soup.' The kids think it is funny so they've started to do it too. When we are out and about, people think we are nuts.

Yes! We have a soup nazi in town! You can try the soup but she always looks at you like you were there at 4am with her and you should KNOW what is in the soup! Sometimes the name just doesn't give it away!
Next time, walk up and ask for spicy tuna and see if he falls off the counter in shock that you know of something else! (They are my favorite sushi!!)
Don't let the sushi nazi take away your adventure! ;)

That is funny!! I probably would have made up a story that I was buying some other things for someone else!

Too funny! I never did watch Seinfield. So I can't really relate to the moment, but I do go to the store lot's to get my usual whatever and think I'll try something different, I never do, because I am worried I won't like it, maybe I should take a chance and step outside my little bubble! *smiles*

That's hilarious.

I've never had sushi before even the kind with no actual raw fish in it (am I mistaken, or is that called Sushimi?), so I can't relate on that level, but I do recall a time from when I was little; we had a bakery we used to LOVE to go to. I'd get the same exact thing every time. A plain buttermilk donut with NO glaze or frosting. Loved those things, and ONLY from this bakery.

One day I suddenly decided I wanted to try a raspberry filled cruller and the man who owned the bakery was insistent that I wanted a buttermilk bar. He really did NOT want to sell me the cruller. I was only 12 I think, and I bought the buttermilk bar but I had my mom go back in and get me the cruller just because I wanted it to so badly!

Oh and that Seinfeld episode...Best one EVER!

Too funny! We quote Seinfeld a lot around our house...Soup Nazi is one of our favorite episodes. I don't think I've actually had a nazi-ish experience, but we joke about it alot. I too LOVE me some CA Rolls! YUMM-O! You just made me super hungry for some sushi!

Yes, not quite as stern perhaps, but yes. We have this Chinese restaurant we go to and have gone to for 22 or so years and we have pretty much refined our meal there to Mandarin Chicken, Shrimp Fried Rice, one extra order of eggrolls, one coke, one sprite, and one diet coke. Well, I quit drinking diet cokes, but she still brings me a diet coke..........on the otherhand, the owner has agreed to give the recipes for our dinner when they retire and close. So, we establish these connections and in your case the fella might not speak much English or he just wants to be sure you are happy and come back. I think there is a slight difference in culture with the whole you getting California rolls and me getting diet coke when neither of us want it, lol, but I think they mean well........

Funny. Once I called in an order at a near by place. She could not understand me,nor I her. So my coworkers laughed really hard when I got back to work with three bags of food. I told the lady I only ordered one dinner, she said "Oh no lady you order five." So not to cause a scene I paid for it and gave everyone at work lunch...Missy

ROFL....that is so freaking funny! I guess I would have let him intimidate me into CA rolls and I don't even eat raw fish! I used to go to a little family run fast food place in Utah called Daily freeze. I always ordered a large coke half full of ice (they had the yummy crushed ice) It got to the point that if they saw me pull around to the drive up lane they would just bring out my coke before I even made it to the window. On days I actually wanted something else like food or something I felt to guilty to ask them to go back in and place an order. I learned that if I wanted food I had to hit the walk up window stealthy like so they didn't see me coming first. I'm pretty sure that's where I developed my "Killer Ninja skills"!

That is my favorite seifeld episode! I have had a similiar moment to that in the nail salon when the vietnamese woman refused to put the color pink I wanted over my french manicure. She had me hostage and just refused saying, "No. You not want that".
I avoided her from there on out. Too funny!

We have a lady at our homeschool co-op that we refer to as the "salad nazi". She has rules about her salad serving, and we have to obey if we want a salad. It's the only food there except pizza, so we all play along. We're trapped. What can I say? That guy sounds like my son's violin teacher who demands that we do certain things.. like he's the customer!! crazy..

My son's account is listed. I'm the organizing mommy

Sandy, that is hilarious! You definitely need to come up with a "Plan B"! Maybe you could tell the chef that you ADORE his CA rolls but would like advice on branching out. Solicit his opinion, and he just might turn you on to something really special! (unless it has squid; sorry, but I hate squid. I do.. I can't help but to think of Squidward in Spongebob..).
