"In A Bowl"

I don't know about your kids but my kids love {I mean LoVe} snacks. They especially love them after practice. When we come home after a long day, I am too too tired to chop up fresh fruit. I find myself just telling the kids to grab some "cheeze-its" or "chips".

So my new {chopping} goal is to cut up a bunch of fresh fruit and put in bowls....READY...CHOPPED and WASHED!!!

Now...I can be ready to go when my kids say "SNACK, please"...I can just pull out a variety of fruit and they can "enjoy"!

How do you make your snacks healthy and ready????

I find if I don't wash the fruit and ready it for eating, it tends to rot in the fridge and get thrown away.....I am not proud of this, just being honest. My kids are big fans of cheez-it type crackers.

I am with Lynn...everything has to be prepped in case I am feeling too lazy to snack healthy... you are such a good mom!

Sorry...I slack in this department. It's either cheez-its or chips of some kind.

I rely on Cheez-its too! And dry snacks, because they are so much cleaner for the toddler/preschool crowd. But I do love the idea of pre prep for snack foods!

I do pretty much what you do. I cut stuff and put it in bags or in bowls. I have to or I don't eat it and it goes bad. I do love fresh fruit!

I'm sad to admit...but it's usually Cheez-Its at our house, too, for after-school snacking. My girls usually do grab an apple or a banana to munch on before bed, though.

We do a lot of cheese- string cheese or Babybel cheese, or yogurt for snacks. I do have a big bowl of grapes the girls get snack from. Trouble with that is the grapes don't ever seem to drain properly. I need to find a bowl that drains. I have to watch snacking because if my two year old eats snacks then she won't eat her proper meals.

This is what we do also, I find the more fresh fruit I keep available, the more they will eat and avoid the chips!

I am going to do this today!

I have to do the same thing! It's nice having everything ready to go when you need it. I also do it with veggies and hard-boiled eggs. It's nice to have a something you can just grab and go with.

Pretty convicting~! I just send them to the Goldfish or Pretzel bags! I'll try this and make it a goal of mine this summer. I agree with Jessica~ you are such a good mom!

I go through spells with it. Like the others, if I buy and clean it, most of it gets eaten. If I don't, it rots - so sad. They will eat a bowl of cereal or popcorn for a snack if I don't have fruit, so I don't think that is too bad.

I'm finding that I have to prepare snacks just like any other meal, a pain to do, but my kids love it!

I'm pretty lazy about washing and cutting up fruit, but I make an exception for oranges. They're so worth the trouble. :)

I do the same thing. I also have baby carrots and other veggies cut uo. I also will slice cheese and let them have cheese and crackers.

Great idea cause if it is ready my daughter will grab something healthy over not so healthy! It is just my lazy self needing to keep it done!!

We go through fresh fruit pretty fast. I always have bowls full of apples and oranges as decoration and to use as backup when we eat all the grapes and strawberries! Although, my kids eat plenty of sweets too. I need to have them eat the fruit more often:-)

My kids love chips so I try to buy pretzels we do eat alot of apples though.

I prepped all of my fruit this morning. Its so much nicer (and healthier) to have a snack bag of grapes rather than throw a fruit roll-up at them. Great minds think alike. Cheers.

I wish I did make my snacks healthy and/or ready, but my kids are picky. The best thing I give my kids is a yogurt or my son loves applesauce, so I guess thats better than the chips I useually offer.

Yummy! We live in SoCal so fruit is always around...Oh that's making me go to the fruit stand RIGHT NOW! I cut up stuff and just keep it out on the counter. The bad thing is...I do it for the kids...but not for hubby. I feel so convicted now! The downside is we eat a LOT of microwave popcorn...

I have one drawer in the fridge and one basket in the pantry dedicated to the snacks the kids can have. I keep carrot sticks, cucumber slices, grapes in the drawer in the fridge. When the kids want/need a snack they can go grab something. The pantry basket has stuff like granola bars, rice cakes, crackers, etc. We do have unhealthy snacks in the house too, but those are saved for other times or mom-approved times!

my kids love fruit.......so that's not a real issue for us.

however, I do like to plan our after school snack, just like meals so that we keep them healthy.

weekends are a free for all, though

I do the same as you.

I agree with what you wrote on my Swine blog. Common Sense is no more.

defaintly a christian song. Yes he says Lord but for some reason I don't know where the Lord went in the words?? I love fruit by the way!!

That's a great idea...we always have apples and banannas on hand-easy-peasy.
...I thought of you today at Starbucks-they handed me a SUPER hot cup of coffee without a sleeve, and the sleeves were no where to be found...I said, "I can hardly hold this-where in the world are the sleeves??" She said, "Here. We only hand them out if you ask, now..." UGH!(hello-its hot coffee!!)

i've been doing this for myself. i'm putting washing and sliced fruit into those mini ziplock bags and into the fridge. it has been so easy to grab as i go out the door each morning for work. and it's helped me not 'snack' on other things throughout the day:)

I do exactly what you just blogged about! I always cut up my fruit and keep it in a bowl on the top shelf.

I've got snackers here! I try to enforce the healthy snack rule (especially after school during the week)!!!

Great idea!

Sometimes I cut up fruit or cheese, but a lot of times we do yogurt and cheese sticks, because it is so easy! :) Maybe I should prepare fresh fruit ahead of time, too...great idea! :)

I am terrible about this too! If I have them cut up, my kids prefer fruits and veggies over the "bad" snacks...I need to get better at this as well.

BlueCastle said...

Oh yummy! I love fresh strawberries and grapes, as do my kids. I'm so glad summer is almost here! Love all the fresh veggies and fruits.
