Line Up Kids!

Hand Sanitizer.....

I have big squirt bottles..little squirt bottles...hand sanitizer that fits on your key chain...even one the size of a pen....

I am always squirting my kids with that stuff.... Anytime we leave a playground, store or any public space~They are lined up for the "squirt".

We went with some friends to the new McDonalds playland. It was jammed...it is new and it was Spring Break. While we were walking to the car....my kids were crying out for their hand sanitizer and of course I agreed.

I carelessly told them that the place was full of every germ possible...you could almost "feel" the germs.

So my oldest daughter gets in the car and literally is lavishing the blue sanitizer all over her hands...arms....ankles that were exposed and soon to her face before I stopped her.

Do you have any hangs up as a mom(bad habits, fears, opinions)that your kids take even one step further?

Let's share...shall we???

My daughter lectures me on the killing of good bacteria. She thinks I over do it. Well she has some truth there. I am a little obsessed too.

I wish my kids were germ conscience. I think they go around trying to get sick.

I admit- I'm just not worried. I really dislike hand sanitizers. They really dry out your skin. My daughter's hands are super cracked from using the stuff at school. I have been super lucky though as my girls are rarely sick...so that might also be why I'm not as worried.
I'm sure I have weird habits & opinions but can't think of them off the top of my head...well, there's one that I'm trying to make sure my girls don't pick- and that's how I put myself down. Not a good feature and I don't want my girls doing it. sigh.

LOL I haven't done this to my kids because they are a little older and hand sanitizer wasn't as popular when they were little. But as a preschool teacher, I practically take a bath in the stuff!!

I think this is my first visit! My mom always told me we had a "predestined" amount of dirt to eat so I have never been a real stickler and they all lived to adulthood with no major germ infestations :) However I get nuts over long car trips. I am on pins and needles until I get the "arrived alive" call--no reason, I'm just nuts! :)

My kids are usually very healthy-I am not a big hand sanitizer person-just one more thing to forget-but my kids love it!

Too Funny!!! When my kids were little we didn't have sanitizer...I always wiped them down with baby wipes. They are very germ conscience as adults now. I think it's a good thing!!

This is very funny. Hopefully they won't try to drink it also. :)

I don't use hand sanitizer that much because my skin is very sensitivie and it kills my fingers. But, we do wash our hands a lot. Even though I don't like it, a bottle is on my piano and EVERYONE who touches it has to put it on.

I can be a bit neurotic on the hand sanitizer too -- that's a good hang-up, I think! :) In fact, my daughter hesitates to go to one indoor playground -- I think because I've said that the place is full of germs and seems so dirty!

I don't go to crazy with that stuff. Just more hand washing when we have gone somewhere like that. It seems like we all have a pretty healthy immune system and don't get sick very often.

Stacey @ The Blessed Nest said...

I just knew we were kindred spirits :) LOL!!! I, too, have that stuff everywhere! In the house, car, and my purse. I even give it out to my extended family as stocking stuffers!! I will admit that maybe I go overboard with the stuff, but if it keeps my family healthier then so what! Plus, my kids have had some major health scares & I have a weaker immune system. But mostly...EWWWW germs! :)

Sandy aka Doris the Great said...

I never use the stuff, nor do my kids. I have a throid problem and was told not to use it as it interfered with my medication. That really put me on alert against hand sanitizer. Now it seems, experts are warning us NOT to use it: not only does it dry out your hands, but in killing the good bacteria as well as the bad, it makes us that much more susceptable to infections, virus', and other nasty germs! We're creating more super-bugs! Plus it's been proven that soap and water works just as well.

The baby wipes are a great idea. And if you feel you must, keep a bottle on hand for when you can't get to soap and water.

But please mums -- let's pull back on our obsession with being overly sanitized. Let's allow our children to eat that peck of dirt in their lifetime. Let's let them build up good, strong, healthy, natural resistance to germs.

We use this stuff ALL the time! I have it stashed everywhere! I might have a hang up here...hmm. We call it dots, b/c BBworks has dots in it!

I have the kids wash their hands as soon as they get home from school...even my 6 yr old son does without my asking : )

Oh, I'm the world's worst germaphob! I should buy hand sanitizer by the gallon! I, absolutely, can't stand places like Chuck E. Cheese...makes my skin crawl everytime! My mind can't seem to get past all the germs that are probably lurking EVERYWHERE! Yuck!

Lora @ my blessed life said...

Oh, yeah, I am on the verge of being a germaphobe! lol! Those fast food play areas totally gross me out~I'm always ready with the sanitizer, too:)

I love the hand sanitizer too! I also have a seriously hard time eating at those play places. I feel like germs are literally JUMPING on to my food! I know, I am a freak!

Joanna said...

We keep a bottle in the car and in my purse. We all know the routine...Get in and hands out. I can just "see" the germs all over. It's horrible.

Lucky kids. I won't allow my girls near those things in the fast food places. I just cringe thinking of all the nasty hands, boogers, sneezes, smelly sock feet...It gives me chills thinking about it.

Of Course i do!!! :) okay here we go... GERMS from play places freak me out as do shopping carts. My 2 younger kids have never been is a shopping cart. I would strap them in the stroller and push the cart and pull the stroller.... and I do not life carnival fairs.... oh no not at all. In our town every Sept they have a huge carnival and 4H animal thing... can you tell I am not from the counrty! When I went for the one and only time I told my hubby that this is just like Charlottes Webb! cute but the rides freak me out ... they can't be safe.. and the petting the animals then wanting the "food" .... oh it has me breaking out in a sweat!!
are we still friends!!! :)

Oh goodness, when mine were little I was definitely a sanitizer mama when eating at Mickey D's or any fast food place. To me they are kind of nasty, yet I still eat there. Mmmm. As far as just being outside with dirt, that was okay. Brett used to play during Phillip's ballgames in a pile of the red clay used for the ballfield. I guess he was around 18 months. He would get through playing and there would be a ring of clay around his mouth. I knew he had made a snack out of clay.

My boys (grown up)lecture me on sanitizer over kill LOL Probably something they learned in biology. All I know is when I use my hand sanitizer I don't get sick. I buy the kind with lotion in it so my hands (and my girls) don't get dry.
I have all kinds of mom hang ups LOL I could write a book LOL

BlueCastle said...

Oh yes. I'm that mom too. In the winter time, we don't let the kids play on indoor playgrounds because all the sick kids leave their germs there. Blech. :) I did make my own sanitizer - alcohol with tea tree oil - and used that to refill my sanitizer spray I carry in my purse. Whenever we go out, my kids get their hands sprayed right before we get into the car to leave a store.

We have it in pumps, in bottles, in wipes to use when we are out and about--and for emergency situations. But I wouldn't say I'm obsessed. I'm ok with a few germs... on hands from shopping carts, etc. But if a little mouth goes toward anything that it's not supposed to... AAACK! I get shivers!! We do wash our hands (soap & water) a lot. Before & after every snack, meal, etc... so we've been healthy!
As far as bad habits... the rolling of my eyes has been translated into a 4 year old version. :(

I have a thing about my kids clothes, I cant stand not matching and if there is one bit of something on there outfit we have to change. Well I guess my son agrees because everytime he goes to the bathroom he HAS to change is underwear after, or if the water from his cup trickles or one drop falls on his shirt he has to change. I guess I messed him up for good!!

Cathy said...

I'm with you on the germs. I overheard one of my kids telling another child "oh, you should NEVER go in those play areas, kids throw up in there and they don't clean it up!"

Oops.

Katie said...

That is funny!!! I have the pump in my car I love it so easy everyone gets a squirt.

AndreaLeigh said...

that's so funny! i keep a huge bottle on my work at desk. my clients never wash their hands and it really grosses me out. of course I still want to interact with them but some just don't have the mental capacity to remember to wash. still.... it is hard not to react when they want to shake my hand and I know they have been in the bathroom. ewww!

This just doesn't bother me at all anymore...probably because we live in the country and the kids are always coming in covered in filth (or at least it seems like they always are!)

At playplaces, we just do more handwashing. I've heard bad things about hand sanitizers so we use them only if it's the only way to clean them up. Who knows? Next week "they" (whoever "they" are) could say that hand sanitizers are the ONLY way to stay clean. :)
