Weekenight Meals...

This week is Spring Break for the kids...we have had family here this weekend. Today, we have out of town "friends" coming to stay for a bit. This Spring Break is a bit more relaxed. Over the past three years, we have done Disney World. But, it was time to give "mickey" a break this year~

We are only in our second official day but I love that it is more relaxed...almost a taste of summer to come. Lately, I have felt like a "top...spinning spinning...spinning". So I think I need this Spring Break as much as the kids do.

Usually around dinner time we are RUSHED...eating fast...changing clothes...grabbing water bottles and off to practices. But, last night, I made a simple casserole and dinner trimmings...lit some candles...played some music and just relaxed with the family. It's amazing how lighting a couple of candles can change the moods...oh I also put a fire on (it's cold here).

It think the food almost taste better under candle light! We then indulged and each had a chocolate covered strawberry sent to me from a dear friend. It was the perfect ending to a weekend meal.

Do you ever do special things for weekend meals? Please share...

Light a candle~ Set a special table~Play "dinner" music"

Sounds great! We're a lot like you guys...busy. So, we don't usually do anything special like lighting candles or anything like that unless it's somebody's birthday. However, it would be nice to slow down and do something like that. The strawberries look delish!! I'm glad you are enjoying Spring Break!

Hope you have a terrific Tuesday!

Isn't it amazing how those school breaks come right on time! It is so nice to just slow down and relax together as a family...getting away from the business is so refreshing!

This is my first year off from the school years and I am enjoying this new season.

I hope you soak every minute out of your break! =O)

Dear God those strawberries look amazing!

I always make a special meal for hubs and I on Sunday evening...including a small dessert we eat together on the couch while we watch a movie.

We are on spring break next week ~ I'm so looking forward to the down time. This year we are staying put. I need some down time.

Relaxing dinners are the best. Every now and then I'll pull the good dishes and light candles or bring home some sort of dessert as a special treat.

The strawberries look so yummy {and fruit is so healthy you can have extras}!

We like to have picnics on the floor inside when it's yucky outside. :) Sometimes we like to have ice cream for dinner. On Sunday nights we have a tradition of chocolate chip pancakes!

Sounds good!! What better way to end a special meal than with chocolate covered strawberries...YUMM!

It is cold here too...I might need to rethink Sarah's Easter outfit because it is not going to be any warmer on Sunday.

Enjoy your week!

How nice. When the weather is nice, we will eat dinner outside by the pool!

I got a little relaxed just reading that! When we relax after dinner, by going outside and playing or going for a walk, everyone is a little happier as we go to bed.

I try to have a picnic every now and then in the backyard or in the middle of the kitchen floor if the weather is bad. I don't do this as much as i used to when the children were younger.

It's cold here this morning too. 32 degrees! I know some people are colder, but for here this time of year, this is cold.

Sometimes we have "theme" dinners on the weekends - fondue, mexican, italian, cookout theme... where we decorate the table according to the theme and make it a special family time around the table.

During school breaks, we let the children choose each night's menu and "make" dinner. We enjoyed doing that this past Spring Break, and are looking forward to the slower days of summer!

Have a great relaxing week at home with your family!

I get stuck in a rut and forget to try new and fun things. Your post was a lovely reminder of how I can make things more special for my kids with just a little touch here and there. Lovely!

Happy late Birthday! I love birthdays...you're almost as young as I am!

We are on spring break too...we have 7 inches of snow and it is snowing now...sigh...thought it was SPRING break, not winter break.

We have been low key too. Little man had his first sleep over last night...he's 6. Sissy and I are off to a B&B tomorrow! I lit candles last night and thought about a fire. I play music ALL the time! (especially at supper time) Weekend meal...pot roast with potatoes, carrots and sweet tea!

I try to do some special things, but it doesn't look as pretty as those strawberries. But I am not the great mother you are either. Have fun and make memories...

It's all about creating memories! Often we only do those special things for holidays or when we have guests over, but we should do it for our family and let them know how special they are!

Sounds like a wonderful meal....If you count Friday night pizza night special...*smiles*

We don't really do much of anything special at the moment. I do want to start with the weather warmer, eating outside on the picnic table once a weekend..

I love to add candles, music-I am all about setting the mood for relaxation and "peace" which sometimes is hard to come by with the little people. :)
We also occasionally feed the kids early, put kids to bed early/ or put on a movie while we have an "adult" dinner. Ahhh....
We are on spring break next week! I can't wait!

Yes! It sounds wonderful! Candles and music do make a huge difference. One of our favorite things is to spread a blanket and have a picnic on the floor, usually with some pizza and a Disney DVD. It's such a nice switch from the usual. I love it!

I always fix big meals on the weekends, like meats that need several hours to cook and stuff. During the week I have to do fast dinners, so I like taking time to make things like chicken pot pie that take a little big longer.
