Jon and Kate Plus Eight

I am not a big TV watcher..I have a few things I watch but I can even go weeks without watching them. Through the years I have loved watching "Jon and Kate plus 8". I watched them when the show was a documentary.

It has broken my heart to hear of their "present" situation. I don't believe it all but it's obvious there is tension and trouble. I don't judge them...I totally understand how much work is involved in keeping a "marriage".

As I watched the season premier...I wanted to yell out loud at the t.v.! I don't understand why they are continuing the show....they have made lots of money {i am happy for them}. But, now they need to concentrate on them and turn off the camera. What will the money do when they both are alone???!!!

This loyal watcher is "done" watching. It's sad to me and my heart goes out to their children but watching them is just too too much!

{What do you all think?}

p.s.

Dear Kate,

I love the show serving dinner on "paper plates". The next day...I did the same! Thank you for setting me free and showing me kids can still learn table manners sitting in front of a paper plate!

I miss seeing just the {normal} life!

I've never seen it- we don't have a TV. But I am really weary of seeing headlines on the computer about them and plastered over magazines at the checkout counters.

And for the record, I love HGTV. I certainly never secretly wished I'd have no visitors after Baby #3 so I could watch my fill and chill out before going back home!

I'm with you! I found it painful to watch the premier and haven't watched it again. Yes - I think they need to turn the camera's off and get on with life.

It is rough knowing that the money and fame has somewhat gone to Kate's head, at least. John seems done with it all. And what is sad about that, is that no one else's feelings seem to matter. No one can really know unless they are living the situation, so who knows what else is happening. I feel horrible for the children and just hope that they don't grow to resent their parents for what is happening.

It is a very sad situation, indeed!!! I agree-cameras off and focus on your marriage if you want to save it.

I think they are going to figure it out...really, I think they just lost sight of the important things for a while and are *hopefully* going to redirect their priorities.
Funny thing, her paper plates habit annoys me to death...so much waste EVERYDAY. :0

I completely agree with you! I wish they would quit and try to rescue themselves and get a hold of it. Their marriage is so much more important. Like you, I don't believe most of what I see on TV and the mags...The record like 90 hours of footage for 1 hour of television. I pray for them when I see their picture.

Hi Sandy... I have never watched that but I must say what is going on now is horrible for the children... How very sad!

Now back to the Easy Peasy Chicken... Great recipe!!! I will be making that and sure could use a tone more kid friendly recipes since I will have my granddaughter for the next 8 weeks...
I will be keeping an eye out for more... Thanks

I find the whole thing sad too...I just want them to reconcile and go on with life. I love the regular life shows too. This season sounds like it is filled with "special guests."

I was a regular, watching it faithfully but then had to just boycott it cause I felt they had totally "sold out" to all the wealth and fame. It is time to turn the cameras off and refocus. It breaks my heart for those kids. I feel for the family.

I agree, like watching a train wreck now. The show is their income now so that makes it difficult to walk away. But they should think how all of this will affect the kids and make changes for the benefit of the whole family. It's a sad situation.

I haven't watched it before, but I have seen them splashed everywhere lately. That is really sad though. So many involed.

Hi there - thanks for coming by my blog and commenting. I haven't watched more than a couple of Jon & Kate's - was really pleased to see that they used Sunshine Kids radian car seats, but then I am a geek that way (and they were given to them too). I agree - it's enough now - the need to go back and concentrate on rebuilding their marriage and spending time as a family unit. I definitely foresee therapy in the kids' future.

I guess they are hooked to the money and the fame - sad.

I have always watched it too, but this season is almost to hard to watch. I was screaming at the TV that yes it's important to take care of your kids BUT I think that your spouse comes before your children and that they need to concentrate a little more on each other. My 2 cents..

Craziness happens with stardom, or when God isn't the center? I dunno ...

I don't watch it. Too gossipy at this point and just feels gross.

YAY for feeding your kids on paperplates!

I watched it back when it was a documentary as well. And I watched the first few seasons when they showed them living. Like using a pizza cutter for pancakes. Or organizing the basement with the IKEA system. These are things I incorpated into my schedule. Now it's painful to watch.

I still watch...but I don't watch on Monday nights...I don't want to give them the ratings. I wait until Tuesday...but I'm still watching. It's sad now...And I'm thinking about now watching... They should turn off the cameras.

She was scheduled to come to a church in town in January but it was cancelled. The church refused to charge tickets or assure they would give $3000 upfront. They said they'd give a love offering, which has been the case. This church has had former presidents speak, and many other "celebrities" all with love offerings. I think that money really is the root of lots of evils and they've been sucked in as well. I can't say I'd do any different if I was in there case...but I know my daddy...in his old age would MAKE me pull the plug. They don't have any family to keep them grounded. It's so sad.

I definitely think all the fame and fortune has gone to their heads. The season premier was so sad. Jon and Kate are not a cohesive unit AT ALL anymore. I too think the cameras need to be turned off.

I feel exactly the same way -- I could have written this post! I am so sad for the entire family and especially the kiddos!

I too have been a watcher for years. This season is hard for me to watch. And the thing is I hear they are still filming...and I don't understand why!

I watched from the very beginning and in recent months, my 15 year old son started watching too. However, my daughter who is 17, from the outset, saw a problem with Kate and couldn't bear to watch it - she said she was too mean.

I did watch the season premier and that ended my watching of their show. I blogged about it way back and I too recommended that the cameras stop rolling, despite contracts, so that they could work on trying to repair and rebuild what ever thread of a marriage they still have.

YOu know what I miss? That they actually used to go to church, and she had Bible verses taped to her kitchen cabinets and she didn't care that she had ugly green formica countertops and blue carpet... I miss them being a "real" family too :(

I feel the same as you. I don't watch the show anymore, mainly due to time, but also because the constant tearing down of Jon was hard to watch. I also do not judge, it is just sad that they are experiencing all that they are. However, if they go forward and heal their family, imagine what a testimony that will be!
I shared some personal troubles with a friend once, and the comment made was, "Wow, and I thought your family had it all together." Gosh, the comment has bothered me more than my actual sharing. True friends that walk through the fire are a rare and precious treasure. :o) I hope that Jon and Kate have those kinds of relationships knit around them. People who speak the truth in love and hold their hands through the difficult times.
Sorry so long. :o)
Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne

I agree!!! We don't really watch T.V., but have caught a few episodes and enjoyed them... the other day we tried to watch and it just broke my heart...it seems they have let "the world" take over their lives.... so sad for those sweet children...I'm not judging either...just sad for their family!

I used to be a loyal fan. But about a year ago, I began to notice just how sharp and demeaning Kate was to Jon; I couldn't believe someone would be like this on camera! AND feel justified in the things she would say to him! After a few more episodes, I just couldn't listen to her anymore; so I stopped watching.

Although I know full well that it takes 2 people to make or break a relationship, I believe they should stop filming NOW, get help for their relationship, and save the future lives of those beautiful children.

Ruby Red Slippers said...

Agreed!!!!
I am not watching it anymore either-I mentioned it in passing on my blog last week. It is never a good thing to be party to watching the downfall of a marriage.
Turn the cameras off, & work on saving your marriage. Eight little hearts will be broken, and changed forever-
I think it is a shame that TLC isn't just ending it for them...but money always trumps values these days-

LuLu said...

I have only seen it a couple times in the beginning, now when I have tuned in I can't watch.. talk about it being only about the fame and not the kids. No one thinks of the kids!! really they don't need a camera filming them.that's my 2 cents too,
LuLu

We have watched it from the start too since we have 4 babes that are very close in age with 7 kids total. The Captain and I agree. They've lost their focus-they used to rely on/talk about God all the time. To save the mariage-THEY MUST quit the show. What happened to Kate being in sweats and looking like a normal mom? Now she wears heels EVERYWHERE and has a spray tan constantly! We still watch but it has gotten sad.

Beki - TheRustedChain said...

I've never seen it!

But I'm still aware of the goings on, due to all the other shows that are covering it. So sad for those kids!

What a sad situation for all of those involved...I, too, think it's time for the show to end...

That show drives me nuts. I think it's terrible that they're promoting a family that obviously is in crises.

jlc said...

Amen!!!

They should spend less time worrying about how much money they're making per episode and more time working on their marriage! So sad... the whole thing.

I only started watching this show a year ago. I decided not to watch at all this season. I had commented to my daughter when I started watching the show that Jon and Kate always seemed irritated at each other. Whenever they sat on the interview couch, they seemed uncomfortable. Money and quick success can change people if they allow it to. I know some in baseball that it has changed. Usually the wife, not the ballplayer, changes. I agree that they should try to patch things up, enjoy their children and stop the show. They may have had a contract to do another season before all of this trouble started. They need to check their egos at the door, look at those precious children and decide that those babies and marriage is more important.

I caught a few episodes a long time ago. I really didn't like the show. Kate annoyed me!

I've never watched the show...but I have to agree with you that if the headlines swirling around are even partially true, it's time that camera went away!!!

Oooh I m catching up on my reading, saw this title and KNEW it would be a good post! LOL I agree with you. I never really watched them loyally. Popped in on them when I felt overwhelmed with my 3 and then felt better that I didnt hae EIGHT screaming little ones. Is that wrong? lol But in all seriousness, it is just SAD. SAD for them and sad for their kids. One day their children will be able to watch the tension between them. I don't think they should continue the show and I do think they do not have their priorities in order...in my humble opinion. Money, no matter the amount, is not worth the security and closeness of your family.

My sister was telling me about this show, but I have never seen it. But from what she has told me about their situation of late, I agree with you. The most important thing right now is to work on their marriage and keep their family together.

I had never watched this show until last fall when my kids saw a re-run of it and fell in love with their kiddos (they think they are so cute.)

We watched a few episodes and then I had enough. I couldn't sit through her yelling and rottenness towards Jon.

I absolutely agree - I hope that they leave the show and spend some time working on their marriage and family. The whole situation is so sad.

Me too!! It makes me sad they need to get into christian counciling and get help for sure. I'm praying for them.

I have stopped watching it and deleted it from my saved shows on DVR. I don't judge either...am saddened that they are now divorcing and still continuing with the show.
