The "perfect" picnic

When my son stands off the diving board....I have visions of my grandfather. My sons body built...his generational "mole" on his chest....his "sun" kissed hair reminds me of him. My grandfather was an amazing swimmer...a gentle and soft spoken man. So many times I wish my son could of met his great-grandfather. I know they would spend hours talking in a chair or tinkering with tools together.

He was extremely talented and could make or fix anything.

Today, I am going to share with you a picnic basket that my grandfather "redid" and my grandmother sewed the lining and fixed it all up. She had special touches, too!

As, I was pulling it out, there was "hint" of their smell that I remember as a child...what a special treasure created with love.

Wishing today that my kids and I could go on a picnic with them...I can almost taste my grandmother's egg salad...cut up so finely you don't even know what's in it but boy' it was good~

I know exactly what you mean of the smell- Granny always had a hint of Noxzema and Cover Girl powder on her. And wow, I miss her homemade biscuits!

Great picnic basket!

This post reminded me of a craving I had the other day...when I was younger and it was time to go on vacation my parents would pull the luggage down from the attic. They always had a weird smell to them. The other day while packing I had the craving to smell those suitcases...maybe next trip to my parents...I know the cases are still up there! Great blog!

What a sweet post. My children never met my dad either. Makes me so sad if I dwell on it. Thanks for sharing this. xoxo

I wish that my children knew their great-grandparents and my dad. Actually they were around my paternal grandfather for a few years. I am not sure how much they remember about him except that he was a little grumpy. I wish they had known him before. He was so fun, but when my dad passed away 20 years ago, my grandfather became a sad man. Every now and then a hint of the grandfather I knew, would appear.

Your picnic basket is such a precious momento. I have a few momentos that I use to tell my children about my grandparents and my father. I believe Britnee and Brett will get to know them one day in Heaven.

That is a GORGEOUS basket! You are so lucky to have such a special treasure to remember them by. I have my grandfather's straw hats. I get a kick out of seeing the kids wear them for a few minutes and I know it makes him smile too.

YEA for Summer! My favorite time of year. You know what, Shell In Your Pocket? So many times when I go to leave my buddies a comment, you have beat me to the punch. So I would like to personally invite you to sign up for my 100th-post giveaway. I am giving 3 separate items to 3 separate winners. You're the only one I've left this particular message for, but after following behind you for a year and seeing your name again when I went to leave one of Melissa's Paint Party participants a comment, I thought I would pop over with the invite. Have a great Summer!
