Where are my shoes???

I have read...watched...cut out... even "googled" ideas for how to organize shoes. I have "racked" them...

I have "hung" them"...

I have "left" them....

(maybe even got "rid" of them)

With 10 feet to "shoe"...we have a lot of shoes.

But, with the shoes comes the ONgoInG "saga" of little ones wearing their Sunday "best" to bike ride then use the front toe as a break to stop.

I had to come up with a plan!

So I have now done the "bucket" idea. I have been doing it for months so I can say for this family it works...it keeps this mama "smiling".

Each person has TWO buckets....One that says "Play Shoes-Gym Shoes" the other bucket says "Church Shoes-School shoes". The children just put their shoes in the correct bucket at the end of the day. If they are out side playing, they cannot get shoes out of the "church bucket".

I took cheap plastic buckets...sprayed one "front" with chalkboard paint. Wrote the "labels"...stuck them on a metal shelf out in the garage. I also have one bucket that says "Time to Grow" which are shoes from my 2nd child that will go down to my 3rd child.

It's not "beautiful" but it REALLY has worked! "Working" is good here!

Thank you for that idea! Since my oldest can't read yet, maybe color coding the buckets would work for us!

Wow Sandy what a fabulous idea... I will be sharing this one with my daughters... One has 4 boys and the other has 2 girls... this should work great for them too.... I never heard of blackboard paint... that is soooo cool!

Great idea! I currently only have two baskets in the dining room for 7 people (the big boys keep their shoes downstairs) and it ain't working AT ALL!

Great idea! We are constantly tripping over shoes near the door -- but they are mainly the husband's -- will have to make him a bin! :) Have a fun day.

Cute idea...We all have shoe racks in our closet for shoes that aren't worn everyday or that are seasonal...The everyday shoes are in a basket beside our back door where we come and go.

Please, please remind me to do this in the fall-I love this-shoes are a constant irritation to me-I especially need the "time to grow" one-I put them in the storage room, and find them after the next one has already grown out of them!!!

Great idea! It's an ongoing delimma on what to do about all those shoes. I could make those same buckets, but I am afraid the shoes would still end up outside of them.

I have done something similar, but I only have one tote per child....it is way TOO full. Maybe I need two! How do you get the kids to put their shoes up? I sound like a broken record asking them to do it. Love the time to grow tote idea since i have two boys.

This is a great idea! Shoes are a constant source of frustration around here, too! (Sometimes because they leave them in the strangest places...) We are really trying to teach them to put them either on the shelves in the garage or in the coat closet, but for some reason this is proving more difficult than I would have thought! I like your solution, and love that it included chalkboard paint! :)

I'm giving up on shoes for my girls. Tennis shoes for school and flip flops for the rest of their lives. They complain and moan when they have to wear regular shoes that they hurt their feet. waaaaa.
Good system. Although my 2nd daughters foot is about the size of my 1st daughters foot. She's not happy about that.
They can both almost wear my shoes now and I'm not happy about that.
