It was last fall when I bought this piece of furniture...I think it was $10.00! I have had full intentions of painting this for one of my girls. But, honestly I am scared....scared it will look bad or the paint will not adhere to the surface.
So instead it's been sitting in my garage....becoming a catch all for
tools......chlorine buckets...juice boxes even
leftover RED popsicle sticks
...I even used it as a gardening table when I was planting plants! Mr. Sandy Toes asked me this week what I am doing with it. I don't know!
So I am asking YOU? What should I do with this? I need some ideas please.....

Good Morning... I would head out to Home Depot or Lowes and ask a professional how to refinish it and pick out a finish you like there... They will help you learn all you need to know... It is a beautiful piece and with a little attention it will be awesome... Take the drawer in with you so they can see it... Trust me!!! They are so willing to help you... Have fun with it!

Girl! You are gonna paint that baby that is what you're going to do! LOL Did that sound bossy? Sorry. Seriously - there is NOTHING to be afraid of - its JUST paint. And if you mess it up (which you won't) there is ALWAYS a way to fix it - promise. With a little bit of sand paper and paint you'll have a beauty on your hands! I would just ask th epaint peeps at your local store what would be the best things to use - they will get you going on the right track. Be sure to let them know if it has a varnish of sorts on it.

You can do this. Just get to sanding, then priming (just in case) & paint that baby a beautiful color. Your girls will love it.

I wonder if you have to sand the piece before painting. I've heard about sanding primers. I just hate sanding!
I think you should go for it too...if you mess it up you can always return it to it's tool holder...potting table...red popsicle stick holder status! What's to lose?!
Take the plunge, girl, and paint it! You definitely have the talent to make it a very special piece!

I asked at Home Depot recently, and got scared when the man said that I really, really should use an oil-based paint. That sounds messy! Keep us posted on what you decide to do and of course, show some pictures!
I would definitely refinish it to match where ever you are going to put it. Don't be scared because for $10.00 it could be used as your permanent potting bench if you totally mess it up! LOL

I don't know what do to with painting, but-i am painting an iron bed (black) and a wooden bed (red) with spray paint. That is what "joys of home" seems to do-and her stuff turns out amazing...I will post about it-IF my projects turn out this fall!

If you mess up you just fix it! I was afraid to tackle my daughters huge dresser, I kept putting it off.
One day I pulled out all the stuff and just did it! It turned out great!!

i think you should get out your fusion spray paint and have at it :) it is better than letting it sit and gather junk in the garage! although... but i should be envious because i do not have popsicle stick holder!

You are talking to someone who tries to do as little as possible to stuff. Even at $10, I would have passed, as it needed work. But, if you painted it black, I would be all over it and I'd pay real $$$ for it then. If you still want it, follow all the directions above and get after it! Be sure to give us a follow up! ~Mindy
I was afraid of my first endeavor as well. Buy two cans of white or black paint, primer if you want. I am a newer, lazier style painter, so I don't think I would even sand it. But if you think you should, go for it. What is great is when you see other women who try something, maybe they love it the first time, maybe they paint over it again, or add a stencil design, whatever you feel like! You could change the hardware to give it an updated look, paint it black if you paint the dresser white, etc.
So many options, don't be afraid, you only spent $10 on it and the paint can come off easily! Have fun and let those creative juices flow! :)
Hi there! I hope you're having a great summer! This is a great little table. I think if you sand it and prime it the paint should stick just fine. I'd go with a light color to show off the details. And what a bargain it was!

I love it! If I were you I would sand it, prime it and paint it. I would use a paint brush, not spray paint, because I think it looks better and will hold up more. Just get in there and do it! I can't wait to see how precious it will look for your daughters!

You're going to sand it, prime it, and paint it. However, I would NOT use a brush. I can't stand the look of brush strokes on a piece of furniture. If you decide not to spray paint it (which I think you could do with a million and one different colors), I would definitely use a sponge roller on the flat surfaces. They're cheap, and they make all the difference in the look. Dive in! You won't regret it!
Sand, paint and if you like glossy finish, polyurethane. You can do it!!!!

I guess it depends on the wood underneath the finish. Try stripping a section of it and then staining and/or painting it and see what happens. If you find success in that little patch, do the whole thing. SITS sent me over...I sure do love projects!
sand it a bit and buy high gloss black spray paint that gives a pro's finish and go for it!!
you only have 10 wrapped up in it... worst case .. it stays put for its current use

My husband would say to refinish it. I'd be more inclined to paint it. Don't ask me how; I'm worse than you are about being a chicken. I'm scared to even hang stuff on my walls without adult supervision. I'm trying to get over it and we can conquer our fears together.
I want a vanity like this for my daughter's room. I can't believe you found this one for $10. I found a Shabby Chic one at Target (white) for $99!! And I doubt it was real wood even. So if it were my find, I'd get instructions on how to paint it white and then shabby it up a little. (From what I've read that involves fine sandpaper after the painting.)
