"Recession" Fall Decorating~

recession
The next three days I am going to share some VERY inexpensive ways to Fall Decorate since we are in a "recession". It's funny I never thought I really talked about it but I guess I do!

Last night, my daughter would not eat her dinner b/c she didn't like the {green} spices. So my son told her to eat it b/c "We are in a recession!". Oh..I laughed!

Today, I am going to talk about buying a couple of BIG pumpkins. Walmart has them for $4.99...and they are BIG!

So get a pumpkin, strand of ribbon, a marker and a paint pen (I love these and it works beautifully on a pumpkin).

Outline with your pen the 'initial' of your last name on the pumpkin then color it in with your paint pen. Tie on a bow on top and put it next to your front door!

It's a nice welcome to your friends who 'grace' your door and it's CHEAP and takes about 5 minutes from start to finish

The cost is: 4.99(pumpkin)+2.39(paint pen)+ribbon(.99)=$8.37{but you keep reusing the paint pen)

Other things you can paint on a pumpkin for your front door....

"Welcome" "Happy Fall" "Fall Blessings" "Harvest"

It's a perfect Fall project EVEN during a "recession"!

Wow! Beautiful -- will be running to Walmart after work today. Just wondering though - how do you keep squirrels from eating the pumpkin? Have a great day!

I love a good paint pen...ya gotta be 18 to buy one here. I like to write our last name on one big pumpkin and buy little ones for each kid's name.

I live in the woods and have had no problem with a pumpkin on my porch. however you could use Critter Ridder it works well on plants etc you can get it at Lowes.

Very cute. I've done the same thing but with those fake pumpkins (40% coupon) and carved out our initial. Lasts year after year.

That's just as cute as can be! Thanks for this tip. I would hate to see what my letter would look like because I can't draw a straight line, much less a curvy one. Yours looks great!

I love this! Also, I remember sometime at the end of that month We Are THAT Family did a post on how to make your pumpkins last longer. These two posts together are great!

Personally I think real things are way way better anyhow. I do not like fake flowers, fake decor, it all sort of looks like cheap china junk. No offense to those who like that sort of thing. I just personally like real flowers, real pumpkins, real gourds, and so on. There is so much artificial dollar stuff, it starts to look junky after a while. And, man after watching Walle, makes you want to have stuff that will eventually decompose huh? Well I love it and will be doing similar projects this year, I also have my kids make most of the decorations, and its amazing what they do with paper.

have not yet taken a picture of it, however, the pumpkins in Italy are NOT orange.

Instead they have a much more subdued brown color and are absolutely adorably shaped.

More like a cross between a traditional pumpkin and a specialty squash.

None puts them out on display here on the porch... they are to be EATEN!! said my friend.

So, I bought 2: one to eat, one to show off... picture coming soon, ok.

paid $5 for the smaller and $8 for the larger... mmm... they better taste good.. ;-)
