Questions, questions

I just have to talk about it...

I have been blogging for a couple of years now and more and more I notice something...

Some of my favorite bloggers are "Latter Day Saints"-

I have been reading one blog for a while and she put her little "Latter Day Saint" icon on her blog this week.

Is blogging part of their religion? There are so many, many of you!

Or maybe it's because "family" is a big part of their religion and they all seem to have wonderful ones.

Well, this brings me to another {point}...I read all these blogs and everyone seems to have the perfect family...sledding, making cookies, family movie nights, etc. etc. etc.

Sometimes, I think blogging is {fake} or it's what we wish it would be...

Do we ever talk about the fight we had with our husband going to church? How are kids talk back and show disrespect? How we don't do that laundry and it's been sitting there for week? Or forget the organic meal...our kids have eaten cereal for three nights straight?

No one will convince me otherwise b/c we know in our society that marriage and family is under attack...why do bloggers seem to have it all together???

see...this is what happens when I am in a house....snowed in....nowhere to go but down a hill!

If it makes you feel better, I read a post this morning that made me cry and miss the States...and we've only been gone 13 days! In the past 13 days, I've cried over: not having a baking dish in the house to cook meat in, making the same few meals over and over in that frying pan, that my husband brought me roses and I didn't have a vase to put them in, sitting alone with the kids in the apartment all day with no internet or other media (week + on that one), and just the plain old difficulties I had forgotten about here. I've spoken harshly to my children and had to ask for forgiveness on more than one occasion. Praise God, though, that His mercies are new every morning (or in my case, every hour!). So go on down that hill- wave your arms and scream a little, too! :)

I have always thought the same thing about Latter Day Saints; the blogging world is full of them! (It's a conspiracy!!)

As a blogger, I certainly don't have it all together. But I also choose only to blog positive things; scriptures tell us that in Phil 4:8. It makes for much nicer reading for you guys, and it helps to bring me out of whatever blue funk I'm in.

Me...have it all together??? No way, no how! If I ever portray myself as living a "Brady Bunch" life, that certainly is not my intention! We have arguments just like the rest of the world. No...it definitely isn't smooth sailing with two hormonal girls around...3, if you include me! :) In fact, you might have just inspired to me to write a post on this subject...if I can get around to it today! Like your previous commentor wrote...I think I'd much rather write about the uplifting aspects of my family life. We, thankfully, have far more good days than bad.

Yeah. There seems to be a lot of us. I think it's a combination of the family thing and the we're really big on journaling/ documenting family history thing -and blogging is a really fun way to do that.

Truly, I don't remember the last time Hubby and I had a fight. We don't have a lot to fight about, I guess. Maybe that will change when there are kids in the picture. But I'll admit to my taking-over-the-bedroom piles of laundry & three day old dishes any day. I'll also own up to the fact that I haven't made a family dinner in three weeks & that I've made multiple trips to fast food places for french fry and spring roll fixes. :)

I enjoy the Mormons. I joke with my hubby that 8 out of 10 of my bloggy friends are Mormon. There are alot of them. I like knowing that the blogs I visit are a safe place...a place where I won't see or read things that are above PG.

I think the LDS just have large community and the newer moms have found blogging as a good way to stay connected.
I do blog about my kids getting to be annoying. Really, my husband and I don't fight. And who wants to read negative stuff anyway? NOT me. I try to keep things light and funny...except for my ghost stories!!!

You have snow in Florida? I am confused?

I try to write real things on my blog a lot. I will be sure to make a post with all of our faults this week though because I have been kind of cotton candy lately :)

I can't stand perfect people! : )

I've noticed that about the LDS bloggers, too. Their blogs are so good that I've wondered if they get help with them. I love the family love and the purity of so many of the LDS blogs.

I am an evangelical Christian and not LDS, but I try to keep the topics somewhat complaint free only because to do otherwise would greatly bother my elderly mother. I often wonder what direction my blog will take when my parents no longer read it.

I can see what you are saying. But then again, is blog world reality? Do people on here represent reality? They are able to present one side of themselves to the world, and usually it is their best side, their crafty side, or cooking side or happy family moments. Think about how important comments are. Its sort of a reward for your post, or for your comment on their blog. One commenter mentioned that no one wants to hear the negative stuff anyhow, and to some degree I think she is right. A real friend understands the negative stuff, but from what I see in blog world, only occasionally will someone, "keep it real". I think that is why I don't do social media, I"m afraid of what I may become :) I love reading posts on crafts, recipes, and even get a kick out of people's occasional real to life experiences. However, I think it does teeter a bit on the phony side. But then again so does TV, and we all enjoy a good show. For the record, I think your blog is fun to read. I think if you are able to see blogging, facebook, and other forms of media for what it is, it can just be a fun outlet. Reality doesn't really live in blogworld, it occasionally peeks out, but from what I see, not much. Its a feel good mechanism. I think in perspective that is o.k. As long as you have some real friends to kick it with and be real with. After all a nice comment helps for a moment, but it can't replace a friend being there with a meal during a difficult time, or a listening ear on a bad parenting day. After all, we all have bad days, bad experiences, sad days, and frustrating ones. Especially being parents. I think from someone who just likes to read early in the morning, blogs can be fun. I think you bring up some good points though, and I had to comment on this one.

I know that I often wish my own life and house and kids were as perfect as many bloggers, and some blogs made me feel a bit inadequate because their lives seem so perfect, but I doubt they really are that perfect. I just started a post I called "Woe is Me" about my valentine's day weekend, but stopped because I figured nobody wanted to hear that! And it wasn't that bad of a weekend anyway!

Hope you're enjoying your snow. I am more than ready for spring!! Come on warmer temps!!!

Well, first off I noticed a lot of the Latter Day Saints as well...Wondered why there were so many.

As far as fake bloggers...I think that there are A LOT of fake ones out there. I posted on this quiet a few times as a matter of fact.

Well I post it all, the good, the bad and the worst. Because it's my blog and my life. I like when I come across a blog that I can actually relate too. Not one that seems to perfect. What are they trying to hide?!

When I started blogging I made a decision to never bash my husband by sharing fights we have had. After I had been blogging about a year or so, I blogged something he did that really upset me. He happened to read the blog that day and was very hurt and he asked me to delete it. I haven't ever put anything about him on there without asking first since that time. I do post about the good and the bad of my kids or neighbors, but then again I do try not to post something that is overly personal without consent. As my kids are getting older I have asked permission to post certain things about them just to be sure they are ok with sharing that with the bloggy world! So far they have never said no. I have no problems posting the bad and ugly about myself because I figure it makes me more accountable!

I thought today was a great post-and I read all the comments-
yep. I do fight with my husband on occasion, and I am known to raise my voice at my children. And the laundry??? I watched TV with it all last week (!) and I blogged about it!
I blog about what is in my head-the fuun moments that happen in our house, or the cute things that occur. I still have a son who won't be playing x-box until March (blogging about that tomorrow-), but overall I post on the more positive things because that is how I view life-
You know my circumstances with my hubby's family-If I posted any of that (which is truly the most negative thing in my life-) I would get hate comments from them, and they read my blog, and I look at that situation as gossip...
There is one blog I just deleted from my blog roll due to her negativity-all she said bashed her husband, her kid's school, the neighbors-I just didn't want that negativity in me-
Sometimes I post about the negative in our lives, but how I see it generally has me laughing at whatever happened, so it is never that negative-
I want to be uplifted, and encouraged, and motivated by the families I read about, and the neat crafts, and the decorating...Those are the blogs I read-Like yours-I love you, and your posts-
(I will stop here, I have probally taken up a lot of room!)

I go back and forth in my head about this. I know people out in the blogosphere probably think my life is all roses etc...it's not. But I'm not going to change how/what I blog about - I blog b/c I want to document my family. It's replaced my scrapbooking.

i understand what you are saying... i have those screaming down hill times{being a mother gives us a lot of those} but blogging is such a great outlet to share more of who i am. I just recently had a screaming oh my gosh this can't be happening moment about 8th grade graduation that is coming up this June and i'm all frustrated about it... but i'm wired to turn it around as soon as i vent to think positive... cause in the big scheme of life i have so much to be bless about... i hope that doesn't make me come across as not real.
Here's to all aspects of life that make us who we are!!

I know that I follow many of them and they follow me. They are wonderful family people, really I admire them. I think that allot is truly honest. I myself talk about all, including my laundry!

Lots of LDS blogs in the mama/crafting/home decor world--and I love it! They are rated "G" which I love and I love seeing the crafts they do for their various ladies groups and whatnot. Two thumbs up from this Catholic mama!

My husband and I don't fight but we do argue on occasion. Blogging about our arguments sounds so boring to me, LOL! Plus it is husband-wife stuff and I don't believe in bringing other people into our relationship.

I blog my life...but I do often scoot excess toys out of my pictures!

I am pretty new to your blog.
I have seen this topic alot lately.

You have two subjects here:

1. LDS - Yes I am LDS also. We are encouraged to keep a journal of our lives, of our families, etc...this is also one of the reasons scrapbooking took off 15 years ago - It was a very high % LDS thing but now has been replaced with blogging because blogging is faster, easier, and because of the communication factor more fun.
It is a great way medium to keep a history.

2. Do we ever write about our problems: For me as I said above my blog is also my journal/scrapbook. I write it for me, my family, my future grandchildren, etc...I turn it into a book each year - it is our history.
I try to include as much real as possible on my blog. I posted when my son lied to me, I posted when i had road rage, I posted when I was mad at friends who were bad listeners, etc...lol - but I also post about spiritual things, I post about family happenings and trips, etc...all happy things. I am very grateful that there are more happy things than bad things.
I don't post about my pms or when people throw up because...ew gross.

Anyway, this is a novel - maybe you get what I'm trying to say.

I enjoy your blog!

DO YOU READ MY BLOG? I keep it real. Nothing rosy over here. But it's also funny b/c I'm not out to depress the general population. I think the BEST blogs (mine) are the ones who are THEIR GENUINE SELVES ALL THE TIME and don't try to hide behind the mask of -oh my life is perfect and here are the three steps to follow to have a perfect life too. those blogs make me want to HEAVE.

I don't think we want to show everyone our not so pretty side! But we all have one.

What a cool post?!?!?! I have wondered the same thing sometimes, but then again I am guilty of not wanting to display our ugliness. I think it's a little disrespectful to the innocent (namely my husband :) to air dirty laundry and it doesn't hold up to my own purpose of wanting to capture the humor and beauty in every day life. For me, and maybe only me, blogging forces me to see the good in even not so good situations and decide how I am going to walk away from that experience. Besides who on earth wants to see the stacks of dishes in my sink on a Tuesday? Not even me!! In any case, it's a cool post.

I'm one of those "Latter-Day Saints", and although I have a pretty good life and feel very blessed, my family and I are so very far from anything near perfection. I think some bloggers tend to highlight only the possitive in their lives. It's easy to do. If you want a fun read from a real LDS mom, check out themeanestmom.blogspot.com. She tells it like it is!

I've been reading your blog for a while now. I love it. I agree with you so much here, I want to jump up and scream. I try to be real on my blog. I feel guilty sometimes when I do complain. I have deleted a few of my posts before because I thought they were downers. BUT, I want to be true to myself. If I'm mad, upset, sad, whatever, I should write about it. It's real life. I love your take on this. The blogs that seem "too perfect" I have quit reading.

I try to "keep it real" but I also try to make sure I don't say anything that would hurt or embarrass my friends or family. In other words, I'm not above talking about the fact that my husband and I have disagreements from time to time, but I don't want to use my blog to detail his every fault or thing he does that I don't like. Most of the blogs I read are a pretty good depiction of real life: a lot of good days with some bad ones from time to time.

I have noticed a lot of mormon bloggers as well. They try to appeal to people to suck them in- just be warned everyone out there. Their doctine is FALSE!

I think you have a valid point about blogs which only emphasize the bright, shiney aspects of the blogger's family. I don't use any real names in my blog, but I do share stories of what's really going on in our home. You might not know my real name, but you know the real me if you read my blog! If I don't post in detail about a fight that my husband and I may have had, it's simply because I figure most people don't want to hear my drama! :)
