Thanksgiving Day "Meal"

Thanksgiving Menu(& recipes)

Turkey

{I cook my turkey in the bag...it is wonderful everytime!}

with stuffing

{My stuffing is the normal with the onions, celery etc. but I also add cooked ground sage sausage....makes it delightful}

Baked Ham

Cranberry Sauce with orange

{1 lb. cranberries
1 orange
1 apple
2 c. sugar

Remove seeds from oranges, also white from inside of skin. Core apple. Grind cranberries, apple and orange until fine. Add sugar. Mix well.}

Mash potatoes with gravy

{I add cheddar cheese, sour cream, cream cheese and a packet of Hidden Valley ranch to my potatoes. For my gravy, I use the William and Sonoma gravy base then add my turkey drippings}

Orange Jello Delight
{In a bowl, mix 1 12 oz. cool whip, 1 cup of cottage cheese, 1 small can of crush pineapple, 1 can of mandarine oranges and 1 small box of sugar-free orange jello. Put in frig to set }

Cranberry Apple Sweet Potatoe Casserole (one of my favorite dishes!)

{1 pkg. (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
1 can (40 oz.) cut sweet potatoes, drained
3/4 cup packed brown sugar, divided
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 Granny Smith apple, chopped
2/3 cup chopped cranberries
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup old-fashioned or quick-cooking oats, uncooked
1/3 cup cold butter or margarine
1/4 cup chopped PLANTERS Pecans
Make It!

HEAT oven to 350°F.

BEAT cream cheese, potatoes, 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon with mixer until well blended. Spoon into 1-1/2-qt. casserole; top with apples and cranberries.

MIX flour, oats and remaining sugar in medium bowl; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in nuts. Sprinkle over fruit layer in casserole.

BAKE 35 to 40 min. or until heated through.}

Spinach Bacon Salad with homemade dressing

{Wash fresh spinach thoroughly and drain. Tear into bite-size pieces and place in salad bowls. Top with sliced hard cooked eggs. Dressing makes enough for 4 to 6 salads.

Cut 6 slices bacon into 1/2 inch pieces. Fry in skillet until almost crisp. Drain and reserve. Drain off all but 2 tablespoons of the drippings. Add 2 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon each of cornstarch and salt to skillet. Cook and stir over low heat 3 minutes. Combine 1/2 cup water with 1/4 cup vinegar. Add to skillet. Bring to boiling, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir in bacon.}

Sausage (bought fresh from the butcher)

Green Bean Casserole

{* 2 tablespoons butter
* 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1 teaspoon white sugar
* 1/4 cup onion, diced
* 1 cup sour cream
* 3 (14.5 ounce) cans French style green beans, drained
* 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
* 1/2 cup crumbled buttery round crackers
* 1 tablespoon butter, melted

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Stir in flour until smooth, and cook for one minute. Stir in the salt, sugar, onion, and sour cream. Add green beans, and stir to coat.
3. Transfer the mixture to a 2 1/2 quart casserole dish. Spread shredded cheese over the top. In a small bowl, toss together cracker crumbs and remaining butter, and sprinkle over the cheese.
4. Bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the top is golden and cheese is bubbly.}

{2 c. crushed pretzel sticks
3/4 c. melted butter
3 tbsp. sugar
8 oz. cream cheese
1 c. sugar
8 oz. Cool Whip
1 (6 oz.) pkg. strawberry Jello
2 c. boiling water
2 (10 oz.) pkgs. frozen strawberries, partially thawed

Mix first three ingredients and press in bottom of a 9"x13" pan. Bake at 350 degrees (metal pan) or 325 degrees (glass pan) 8 minutes. Let cool completely. Beat 1 cup sugar and cream cheese. Fold in Cool Whip. Spread over pretzels. Mix Jello and water until dissolved. Add strawberries. Stir into Jello, then set aside for 10 minutes. Pour over cheese mixture. Chill.}

Rolls and honey butter

Pumpkin pie and usually another type of dessert with cool whip

Strawberry pretzel salad...that sounds good!

You know, my family has had "real" cranberry sauce, but we still always prefer the canned kind that comes out with a "slush" onto the plate. ha!!

YUM...it all sounds so delicious! I can't wait for next Thursday!!! I'm laughing at the comment about the cranberry sauce cause we too prefer that kind in a can.

Okay, I think I am going to have to try that sweet potato casserole out! It sounds amazing! I have one that I have made since my son was a baby, BUT want to try something new this year, and I like the idea of not having to boil and skin sweet potatoes! This year my theme is "simple"!

I think all of your dishes sound wonderful~ thanks so much for sharing all of them! The strawberry salad also sounds delicious and I might have to try that, too! :)

Have a beautiful day! :)
