Both of my grandmothers were wonderful cooks but different. My one grandmother passed years ago but I can still almost taste her special potatoe salad. She made the most basic meals seem like a true "delight". She could use onion, dijon mustard, mayo and mix it up to make something taste unbelievable!
Days before my grandmother's estate sale...I remember opening up a box with all her handwritten recipes. Thank goodness I did b/c at that time, I didn't care one things about cooking. But, I grabbed them all! I was going through them this weekend. If I close my eyes, I can almost taste and smell her cooking. It was such a part of normal life for me to eat her food as a kid...I didn't appreciate it. But, oh, how fun it would be to cook with her today. I know she had a "secret" with her egg salad and we never got it!
You can learn a lot about a person and their recipe cards. I know my grandparents were very thrifty with their money. I noticed that on most of her cards...she wrote how much each recipe would cost to make. It was amazing! I complain to cut out a coupon. My grandmother figured out the "cost" for every meal she made for her family.
After reading, a few of her "titles" for recipes....I think my dear ole' grandmother had another "side" to her that I never saw!

Those are treasures! Love the title of that one. :)
I snorted over the last one! :) I have an old recipe book my Grandma gave to my Granny that has some notes in it- so fun to look through it!!
I collected all of my grandmother's too. I like this post. And that last one cracks me up!
LOVE the drink--
I want that one!
{I am serious-that sounds perfect for the cottage...but I WILL keep my clothes on--}
:)
So sweet--I wish I had my grammy's recipes--You have no idea how much I wish for that!
What a treasure! So great that you found all the recipes. I was at an estate sale recently and found a whole box of recipes and I thought that was really sad that the lady's family didn't want them!
After my grandmother passed away, my aunts compiled a booklet for all her grandchildren of a collection of her favorite recipes. Most are copies they made of her handwritten recipes, which I love. "Strip N Go Naked"...now that's a KEEPER, for sure! ;)
Oh goodness I love looking through old recipes! When I was in college I thought I would be smart and copy down all of mom's recipes and have them all in one book. Now that I am old, I wish I had them back in her own handwriting! I think it would be fun to put them together into a scrap book, but where's the time for that? I do have a little booklet where my Grannie kept a record of how much it cost her to raise chickens! Those depression days were so hard and nothing went to waste. It's so good to look back and remember isn't it? Thanks for sharing your treasures with the rest of us!
Priceless! (The last one gave me a chuckle...;)
Haha! What a surprise ending!
Your grandmother's writing looks just like mine!
Hello Dude,
