"Perfect" Date

This weekend I went on a date{not with my husband}...he was young, charming, athletic, held the door for me, laughed at my jokes. He even shared his "Mike and Ikes" with me at the movies!

Who?

Do you ever take your kids out alone? It's amazing the conversations you have...what they are thinking about...their dreams, disappointments...things that they don't talk about with others around. We went to the movies together. We went to see one movie but it was not there. So we ended up seeing "Marley and Me". I was a bit nervous...but it was "okay" with adult "things"..I kept thinking when they were kissing in the pool ...they are married! I am very PICKY about what my kids watch.

Anyhow, back to the movie...I CRIED like a baby...tears, choking up...yep!! My son was so embarrassed..he kept saying "WHY are you crying?" I couldn't stop...it was such a touching and sad movie at the end!

Even though I cried...I think he will take me out again..he knows my phone number!

P.S.

Oh I can't wait for things like this to happen.

I just saw your post on the MEGA Lego that stole your child. I know the feeling, but it would be my husband and oldest that would be stolen.

Thanks for entering my give-away! I keep hearing that Marley is a great movie...I'm just waiting for it to get to "Cheap Tuesday Movie Night" status at our Theater!

I hope my sons will go on dates with me when they're older! So sweet!

Hi there!
I am so glad you had such a great time! I know what you mean about the difference when you take each child out by themselves. It means a whole lot to them. (Especially when, like mine, they are one of three!) They do open up a lot more too, huh?

The movie sounds really cute; I think maybe we will have to rent it when it comes out! Have a good night!

How sweet! Looks like a special Mommy & Son day(I love those)! We want to see that movie too, but my husband was afraid it was to "grown up".

Awwww! So sweet! This movie is on my list since Christmas Day! We hope to go see it soon!

Have a great week!

I'm very picky with what my kids see too, so don't feel bad. Even though they are "married", sometimes even that opens up a can of worms I'm not ready to tackle yet. I want to see that movie sooo bad. That's so sweet that you guys went together. I miss those days with my son, but I'm enjoying them with my daughter. I learned with him, that I didn't do enough and I want to do lots more of it with her.

We need to get back into the habit of having one on one time with our girls. Your date sounded nice:) I don't know whether or not I'll be able to see that movie. Maybe I'll wait until it comes out on DVD;)

AndreaLeigh said...

how old is your son? my 7 year old nephew wants to go and see marley and me, but i think he's too young. of course, i haven't seen it so I'm not sure. just curious if your son is older since it seems he did ok with it.

Sounds like you had a fantastic date. I think one on one time is great! Even though I don't have kids I cherish moments like that with my nieces & nephew.

Becky said...

Oh you are the second mom I know who went with the kids and cried her eyes out. I can't wait to see it... on dvd. I don't like to cry in public ;-)

Mari said...

Those one on one times are so good for both of you. You'll never regret it!

April said...

That is the sweetest! Yes, I go out with my girls one-on-one whenever I get the opportunity. We always have such a great time!

I, like you, was a bit uncomfortable with a few scenes in "Marley and Me" with Abby sitting right next to me. Isn't it rated PG? I was a bit surprised, to be honest. I bawled like a baby at the end! You should have seen my eyes when I walked out of the theater!

Hope you're able to enjoy more "dates" with that special young man in your life! :)

I've heard so many times how sad Marley and Me was. I'm going to have to buy it when it comes out.

Sounds like you two had a great time and what a gentleman to share his candy!
Glad to hear the movie was good. I had heard that it was a tear jerker.

OK...if this is not the sweetest post ever!!! I don't get much alone time with any of the Things...maybe an occasional trip to the story...but you are right, they talk to much more freely. And that is the best. Glad you had a great time. :) xo Ang

He's a cutie - you're a lucky girl.
I've heard that movie is a real tear jerker - that's why I can't go see it in the theater. I get all puffy when I cry & that would not be good in public.

edie said...

You are right Sandy, that movie had us all crying! For 45 minutes straight.

I'm glad you and yor son had a great date.

I've got to go see Marley and Me. I can't pass up a good tear jerker.

Debbie,

We went to see Marley and me over Christmas Break. All of us went..Dave, me, Bell, and Alyssa. All four of us cried like babies. I mean, we WEEPED! I too was a bit shocked with some of the kissing scenes. However, it was such a GREAT movie. I, now, want to read his book.

Great Times! We had family night at the movies Friday, it was my first time at the movies since taking Demolition D to see I am Legend (was a date night). We saw Bedtime Stories, and he was so embarrassed at our laughing (I guess at 15 you don't want to draw attention to being at the movies with your family) It was fun, and he had fun even with being embarrassed .

Glad you had a great time!

Christy said...

I recently did the same thing with my two sons. We saw Marley and Me as well. Like you, I cried my eyes out! I only wish I would have been a little more prepared about some of the language and that whole pool scene. I am very particular about the movies we watch as well and just don't understand why they have to throw some of that stuff in.

I think it's SO important for us to be spending time with our children on an individual basis. I love that time with my kids.

I am looking forward to your give away... can't wait to see what it is:)

Marie said...

What a sweet post!!! I love special days with my kids. And you are right! It's amazing how much they talk when they are the only ones getting the attention. It's very sweet... I'm planning on taking my daughter with me this week when I get the oil changed in my car. Sounds fantastic, right? lol Well, we'll hit the mall and have lunch while we are out. Oh! And I cried and cried and CRIED when I saw Marley & Me too. My husband took the kids to see it yesterday (I saw it a few days ago) and my daughter came home crying her eyes out. I felt so bad for her!

My hub took our girl to that movie too -- she didn't cry, but he did!! :)

Hope you all have a great week!

We went to see Marley and Me too!

Sounds like a nice date even though you cried. I am waiting for this one on DVD, cause I will cry enough to cause a scene!!!!

What a wonderful date!! I took the girls to see "Bedtime Stories". It was so nice to concentrate on them and not chase after the baby! My vote would have been to see "Marley and Me" but the girls got to choose! They shared their snacks with me too! So blessed to be a mama!!

CMB said...

I cried too...went to see it with my husband & 12 year old son (and he did cry as well). I love doing special things with each of mine alone...great memories for everyone!

I love going out with my two older boys-and so do they!
We took all three to Marley and Me...and we had to walk out. The five year old and two year old heard somethings not to be repeated... However-my husband and I hope to go back with just us..It was getting so good!

Darlene said...

That's so sweet. I keep hearing that movie is a "cry" movie and I think I'll just wait till it comes out on DVD. I might be sobbing through it instead of a tiny tear or two. My daughter is an only child so she gets plenty of "alone" time with my hubby and myself.

I think your children make the best dates. When mine were younger, I cherished every alone moment with them. I knew those moments would be fleeting. I guess you read my blog about taking Brett to see UNC practice before the Final Four. That was definitely one of my best dates ever!

I will have to rent Marley and Me. For one thing, we don't go to the theater as much these days. Another thing, I know I will cry.

I love, love, love going "out" with my boy! We went to see "Tale of Despereaux" last week, and we just have so much fun. I love taking him out to restaurants, too (and I don't mean McD's or ChikFil-A). He's also my escort to church and does a great job. I love your tribute to your son; that's so sweet... (and btw, I hate to cry in public and am a total blubberer, so "Marley and Me" will have to wait for home video....).

Valarie Lea said...

Aww that is so sweet! I have wanted to see that movie, but had heard it was sad, and I knew I would end up a blubbering idiot so I have not seen it yet.

Unknown said...

How did your son deal with what happened at the end? I don't want to give it away to your other readers. But my fiance's daughters went through the same thing and when they saw this movie it was like it was happening all over again. :(

Joanna said...

So sweet! My kids want to see that movie. I too am choosy about what the kids watch.

Can't wait for the giveaway!

Good for you. I love taking my kids placed by themselves. It will be nice when Jaden is old enough for a movie like Marley And Me. It looks so cute, glad you liked it. I cry at almost every movie.

That is SO sweet, Sandy! I was told I can't go see "Marley & Me" because I just lost both of my elder dogs this year. But I heard it is WONDERFUL. And you had a mighty cute date there! :-)

How cute! I love the idea of taking each kid out by him/herself. Right now I only have the one kid, but soon enough she will have a brother or sister, so I will remember this! :) I also had to chuckle at your post about the snow...it would be so hard to leave the "snow belt" for somewhere decidedly un-snowy, like where you are now. I hope you get some snow ice cream soon!

Wow...cute date!!! I bet you had to fight off all the other girls to get him to spend time with you. After all I've heard about Marley & Me I know I can't watch it...I can't deal with that kind of thing...I cried even after watching Homeward Bound 100 times...and they all came home!
What a fun thing for you two to do together. I love the one on one time with your kids...it's the best!

Special times!! I still clearly remember my first date with my dad:-).

I read the book, and I wouldn't dare see the movie, as I too would be a blubbering wreck. Since I'm not one of these women that actually look good when they cry (my nose gets REALLY red), I think I'll have to wait for the DVD!
