What is in your Neighbor's Garbage?

Okay...those close to me know I have a "thing"..okay~ "addiction" to looking and driving around my neighborhood looking at houses. There are some amazing homes! Around 6:50 am after taking the kids to the shuttle...I took a quick trip down one of our cul de sacs~

There in the garbage I saw these....

However, I was in my night shirt (short)...there was no WAY I could get out of my car plus they weighed a ToN!

So I hurried home....met my husband at the door {who was hurrying to get to work in his shirt and tie}....in my NICEST way I ask...

"Mr. Sandy Toes...one street over..down the cul de sac are these amazing plant containers...could you grab them for me?". I didn't think he would do it but 5 minutes later they were on my driveway {THANK YOU!!!!}.

Within 10 minutes of delivery...I had my sandpaper and can of spray paint out and went to work!!!

2 hours later ran to get some "ferns"

Ta-da!!!!! Have you looked in your neighbors garbage lately????

What a great find and you did a super job.

I wish I could do that here. I cannot, they don't even have garage sales... just trash days.

NO WAY! Those are amazing. What a deal. I just bought one of those the next size up I think. Hefty price tag. Your hubby is the best.

LOL... I just clicked on a picture and saw you spray painted the grass. I do the same thing and my hubby has a fit. I am the black spray paint queen around here. I have recycled quite a few items that way!!!

Oh my! How could they throw those out??? Awesome for you though. We used to live in an area on the beach that had lots of great stuff on the curb. I've done it too!

Why would someone throw those out?
Good news for you, though.

What fabulous finds!! And yes, "curb shopping" (as it's known here) is quite the thing to do. We have clean-up week in the spring (last week) & in the fall. The night before pick-up, everyone is going through everyone's garbage. Last week, I was dressed to the nines on my way to work, after I dropped my 2 girls off at school), and I saw a couple of large pieces of lattice work -- perfect for the garden! But I had no time to stop and couldn't see myself in my skirt and heels trying to wrestle those things out from under the green bags. So [sob, sob], I lost them to the garbage man -- or some other lucky slob.

Fabulous!!! now that's "trash to treasure"!

I have actually taken things out of people's trash before! One was a HUGE real ficus tree. It was kind of bare on one side but I strategically placed it so it wasn't noticeable from public view.

What a fun find! Yes... I pick things up from my neighbor's garbage too.

Once I took a trunk that I thought would look great on my front porch, but it was too big, so the next day it was on the street in my garbage. I saw the neighbors slowly drive by... it was funny to think of what must have been going through their heads!

Love that! My husband is neat freak about our garage so everyone elses garages often look super dirty to me. We do not use ours for junk. We park our cars in it and everything else is super organized.

That is a fantastic find! Are you tempted to anonymously send those neighbors a picture of how nice they look now to show them what they're missing? =)

How funny, I just rescued those EXACT same urns from the side of my mom's house. And they are in the same shape too... I have not painted them yet, yours turned out great!

OMG!!!! Those are awesome! I really don't understand people who throw that kinda stuff out!

BlueCastle said...

Ah! You are my kind of lady! That's awesome. My husband isn't too keen on stopping and grabbing stuff for me, so I need to start doing it myself. I always feel a little conspicuous the few times I have stopped and picked something up. :) I love your ferns!

You are so cute! I'm jealous your rockers look so clean- I'm actually dressed and ready to clean ours up today now that I have covers to keep them clean. Sometimes, I would just really like to stop moving around...then I could have live plants to kill!

Those look great! What a sweet hubby.
I have scarfed a few things from my neighbors trash pile too. I can't believe what they throw away.
I also pick up magazines out of their recycle bins. I didn't know Food Network had a magazine until Sunday night when I picked it up from my neighbor Nancy's recycle.
I'm enjoying it.

Joy
p.s. I think you can paint anything black and it instantly looks better.

Dearest Sandy Toes...
Yet again, I wonder why you are my bestest friend???
I just don't know how you find time for the "extra" stuff???
I can barely get just the menial housework done by the time I retire to bed at night. What I'm doing wrong????
I LOVE the planters, but you already know that!!!!
