A couple of weeks ago, after the kids were in bed. I turned on the t.v. and got {roped} into the Hallmark movie "A Dog named Christmas". After about 5 minutes into the movie...I am already crying....
THEN IT happens...COMMERCIALS!
Not just any type of commercial but HALLMARK commercials. I cry at every one...
One hallmark commercial was a family putting up a tree. The oldest daughter goes up to the attic to get the ornaments then as she is getting them. She starts to look at all the ornaments from "years" pass...OH MY WORD...by this point TEARS are streaming down my face...
I need about 5 Kleenexs and maybe even Nasal spray!
I am bawling-
First, because it's so touching BUT also b/c I received a hallmark ornament when I was a child. I have all my "mother/daughter" ornaments from my mom. I have continued that tradition with my own kids. They receive a special ornament each year.
As we were putting up the tree...my OFFICIAL Christmas Tree job is to pass out the ornaments as they go on the tree...talking about them....
"This is the ornament from my honeymoon"..."Our first house"...."First trip to Disney World"..."First Christmas" etc. etc...
iT is so simple but REALLY one of my favorite parts of Christmas....
Do you have a special Ornament tRaDitioN?

It seems the older I get the more I cry when I'm watching movies, etc.
Ornament traditions...hmmm. We started one this year, I blogged about it today.
A lot of my ornaments have memories attached to them (as my latest blog attests). As well, I've given the girls an ornament each year for Xmas - some are collections but mostly they just reflect who they are. So, it's great to put them in their special place and reminiss about "that year" or "this memory".
My girls can't all be with me, so this Xmas it was hard to decorate -- hard in that it was a happy/sad tearful occasion.
Yes we do special ornaments & add new ones every year. It's one of the things the kids look forward to every year.
Lexi gets a special ornament each year and she loves having her "own" ornaments on the tree.
I usually don't even watch movies like that because I know I will be bawling away.
I solidly refuse to watch Hallmark movies for that reason :) As my kids are getting a little older it's fun to see them share their memories of ornaments and fight to hang them in the primo spot on the tree. This year we put their names on the bottoms or back of any that weren't obviously theirs and I am going to pack them away each in their own box. Next year they'll both have their own box of ornaments to marvel over as we decorate and then they can take it with them when they have a tree of their own (in 40 years!!!!)
We give the kids an ornament yearly that represents something big that happened that year- a crystal cross when one accepted Christ, trains or planes because those were the interests, starfish this year because of all the times we go down to the Pacific looking for them on the rocks. Such fun memories!
I'm a big baby too! Our girls are grown now and live in Texas so the trees are decorated by me. We do three, one natural and one with mostly glass blown oranaments and the family room is the one with all of the old ones. They are precious, lots of handmade ornaments that the girls made through the years.

My parents watched that movie too. The comment above is from Wild Child. She wanted to type you a message.
So glad to know I am not the only one who cries easily at the hallmark movies or commercials. Our kids have special ornaments too and I still have some from my childhood. I love them!
I know what you mean. And the movie was awsom.Hope you have a great day! Blessings
Our pastor mentioned that movie this past Sunday!
We have ornaments from all the places we've lived and we also get a special ornament whenever we go to Disney. I also try to buy each girl an ornament every year depicting something they are interested in...like a skater, ballerina etc. (this year I realized I need to start writing the date on the back or bottom because there are now too many kids and too many years to remember off hand).
i'm here from SITS...visiting and saying merry christmas to you and yours! and i saw that movie too, and it WAS sad!
We also get a special ornament for the kids each year. They will take them on when they are all grown. It is so fun to see their tastes change through the years as they pick their ornaments.
I am hosting a giveaway on my blog. I hope you can stop by and enter.

We do the same thing - it's so great to see the kids remember each ornament. I'm going to be so sad when they move out and take their ornaments with them.
That's the movie that I wanted to see too..A Dog named Christmas...Beautiful tree...
We do the same thing and I love that part of putting up the tree as a family.
We also do the one new ornament for each kid each year, plus Hubby and I have all of our own ornaments since we were born! Also, all of the handmade ornaments the kids do too. So it makes for a very full tree! :) But we love it & wouldn't have it any other way!
Blessings,
Stacey
The first Christmas that my husband and I were dating we bought each other a new ornament each. We have continuted this tradition and now include my son. I love seeing these special ornaments year after year. I always try to pick an ornament that has some type of significance during the year. I am really excited about the ones I ordered for this year!
I'm a Hallmark crier too. And yes - we do have some special ornaments. An ugly one that we got when we were dating that we laugh at every year. Bells from our wedding cake, Babies first Christmas. Fun memories!
I love special ornaments! We have one for our first Christmas together and Isaiah's first Christmas and then some we've purchased on vacations...they bring back such special memories.
I'm such a Hallmark crier too! I also cry at the Folger's commercials...ah, gets me every time!!
thanks for my comment! what a fun blog you have!! i love your ornament tradition. mine, "kids! don't brake that!!!" xoxo
That's so sweet!
We have lots of ornaments from when I was a child that have lots of meaning. I'll admit I haven't done much for my own girls. Perhaps I need to start some sort of tradition so that they'll have their own collection of ornaments.
I know they get me going everytime too...I love hallmark though. My Mom always bought from them...brings back a lot of memories. cherry
I showed my tree, but our family tree is filled with all the ornaments that we love-the ones the kids have made, the ones from our parents-I love that-
Funny-I watched a Dog named Christmas, too! I couldn't get my hubby to watch it with me...We should have watched it together!
I'm a sappy girl as well. My friend calls me a marshmellow ~ I tear up at anything sweet and those darn Hallmark commercials always get me!
Jo
Bless your heart. I am the same way. I have heard such sweet things about that movie and have yet to see it. Better make that a priority before the season slips away. :o)
Every year, my aunt sends us an ornament. It began while my grandma was still living and each of them would send my husband and I ornaments. Then as we began our family, the ornaments multiplied. It is so special to hang ornaments from my grandma {my kindred spirit} and remember her. :o)
We actually joke about how bare our tree will be when our children move off. :o) I need to start making some of our own. :o)
I am very sentimental too! In everything actually. :o)
Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne
Great tradition! I try to give everyone who eats with us a special ornament each year. And when I'm feeling crafty (and if there is a place), I will put a date on the back and their name. My family loves this. But everyone gets a stocking when they have a Christmas meal with us. Adults love this!
And Hallmark gets me every time!
XO,
Sheila :-)
I collect the frosty friends from hallmark. I have them all back from the beginning. Love them!
