I love Dr. Oz even though today I am going to tell him "No Way!" My mom was in town and we were watching Dr. Oz and his 5 superfoods of 2010! So we went hunting for them the next day...one being a "mangosteen". Which is considered the Queen of all Fruits!
It may be the Queen but it takes a chainsaw to open it. I tried every knife in my drawer. Finally, we asked my husband to try as he was walking in from work. He chipped away at it for about 5 minutes. While he was doing that...I was reading on the internet about mangosteen's and their juice.
They have a very potent purple juice that stains. So I quickly told my husband as he was in his dress clothes cutting my mangosteen. When we finally got it open, it was not that "fresh, bright, white" like I saw on the show. They were slimy, grayish and wrinkled....ugh! I think our mangosteen took weeks and weeks traveling overseas and was ROTTEN!
We were so disappointed and decided to give up on our "mangosteen" considering they are $9.99 a pound and the size of a plum!

I've never heard of that before!. I think I would give up too!
That doesn't sound very appetizing. I've heard of them but I've never tried one. That IS pricey for it to be rotten!
Mr. Sandy Toes is a good man for enduring your whims!!!
Almost as bad as my roach encounter .... remember that?
This made it hit home just how lucky I am to live in the tropics, where I can get Mangosteen's nice n fresh from the markets. I'm sorry you never got to experience a nice ripe one!
Whoops.
Dr. Oz Fail!!!!
Wow -- never ever heard of that fruit! Think I would opt for strawberries instead! Just read that raspberries are a super food! :)
