Whatever things are lovely

When I was a teenager, my dad would "constantly" quote me Philippians 4:8...anytime I left the house! I remember standing by the door sometimes and he would say it from the couch. I would turn and "roll my eyes". That was the extent of my teenage rebellion!

He didn't change in college. He would quote the same verse over the phone or when I was home on Christmas vacation. I knew that verse inside and out. But, even now as an adult, I can hear that verse in my mind...Just as if my dad was standing there.

you know, those days you drop off the kids and scan on the radio; or after the kids are in bed and push the buttons on the remote control; or stand in line at the grocery store and tempted by magazines filled with just Holly wood gossip;

...this verse applies{and to so much more}!

"Finally brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report. if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy- meditate on these things."

It's a great life verse....it's a great verse for a family! I even have this verse on my wall and I have a feeling that as my kids get older- I will say it to them at the "door".

Great very practical verse indeed! We need to consciously take our thoughts captive and focus on good things. It affects our attitude and our health too!

That is one of my favorite verses, and the inspiration for my blog. What a precious memory that your dad quoted that to you so often. I'm sure it rings in your head if you feel down or discontent. I love the wall saying!
