Journaling in Nature

The girls and I are studying Botany this year.  We also are doing a nature journal study throughout the year, too.  It's such a cute journal that encourages the student to observe nature and write down observations from a walk in the forest, to sitting by a creek to the beaches of the ocean.

We went to our favorite state park and worked on the "water" unit.  They also observed and had to write a story about a tree.

We learned that this tree was probaly over 500 years old and the hole that is rotten from the bottom can show it's age.  It was so much fun!

This year, we are collecting "items" from nature and posting them on a board in our classroom. We found some great things today including some neat seeds, a wing of a butterfly, nuts, leaves and a HUGE pod!
