Stir & Season "Saturday"

The recipe I am sharing with you today is one of my favorites.  Honestly, I am a very picky eater and some of the things in this...I would go "ugh"(I am worse than my kids).  But, all these ingredients together makes one of the best chicken dishes ever...for a family meal and even for a dinner with guests!

How I came about this recipe or I should say how my friend came about this recipe is quite FUNNY!  My friend was at a dinner party at her HUSBAND'S BOSS (keep this in mind).  They served this dish and my girlfriend loved it.  So she asked the wife if she could have that recipe.  The wife said it was a family recipe and would rather NOT give it out.   Well, that didn't stop my friend b/c she saw it on the recipe stand behind some plates.  So she took it in the bathroom and quickly wrote the recipe down and put the card back!  So needless to say she served it to my family and WE loved it.  But I didn't have to write the recipe down in the bathroom under locked doors..thank goodness!

So enjoy...don't let some of the ingredients scare you...believe me it is so good it may be worth jeopardizing a husbands career!

The recipe none of us should have:
6 to 8 chicken breasts
Combine for marinade:
1 head of garlic (finely pureed)
1/4 cup of dried oregano
1 tsp of salt and pepper
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1/2 cup olive oil
1 cup pitted prunes
1/2 cup pitted spanish green olives
1/2 cup capers with a bit of juice
6 bay leaves

Arrange chicken in roaster or 9 by 13 pan and pour marinade over the top.
After Sprinkle on:
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white wine
Pinch of parsley

*Marinate overnight.  Next day, bake at 350 for 60 minutes, basting frequently!  Enjoy!

Sounds like a great recipe ;) Oh and you asked me on my blog if I cook everyday, the answer is YES, unless I'm sick or we're out during meal times which doesn't happen very often :)

I'm glad she didn't get caught in the john disparately scribbling down the recipe...LOL! I can just see it.

I liked your pumpkins too. Very creative and simple... I always overdo it.

It actually sounds good to me....the only thing that sounded a little odd, would be the prunes....but I did see an episode of 30 min meals with R*chel R*y....and she used them in her dish!!

I will try this one for sure....thanks!

No, I don't have lights on that topiary, but I have thought about doing that. It would be pretty to have them on at night. I may have to get some out of the attic and get busy!

This story must have occurred before cell phone cameras. Think how easy it would have been to just push the button, "capture", and then the recipe would have been hers with one snap.
Anyhooo..lucky for us she was a daring slueth that night. : )

Oh my gosh. That is absolutely hilarious. Your friend has some guts! But I understand about the recipe. My own mother-in-law has a few family recipes that she won't share with me because she wants her kids to still have a reason to visit her (how messed up is that?). But what happens when she is gone and the recipes go with her? I would feel so sad for my husband, never getting to have those treasured meals again. Anyway, I digress. Thanks for sharing the recipe with us! :)

That is really funny. My dad kept trying and trying to get a recipe from a bakery, but they wouldn't give it to him. Soon after, his secretary found the recipe published in a local magazine. :)

I'm a little picky too, I don't know if I could do the "prunes." :)

Thanks for visiting!

That's a riot! :) I was talking to a girl about recipes and she said that her dad owned a bakery and got tired of making people angry by not sharing his recipes, so if someone would ask, he'd give them the recipe but leave out a critical ingredient. Can you imagine? I guess since it was his livelihood, but some people are too stingy with their recipes IMHO.

I don't care for olives, but I might have to try this plagiarized recipe nonetheless. It kinda reminds me of a muffaletta, a New Orleans sandwich which my husband enjoys.

What a funny story! I have to say, though, that it must really taste good to be worth all that! It actually sounds delicious! I am writing down these ingredients for the next grocery trip! :) I can't wait to try it!

Have a good night! :)

That sounds very good and it's hilarious to me that it's such an illicit recipe. A stolen recipe...how naughty! LMAO! I probably wouldn't have tried it without such a good story but it must have been good to go to those lengths to get it. Funny!

Love the black pumpkins. They look great. I would have never thought to use the Krylon spray but it gives it great shine. (I dont think they need a stand but maybe a few smaller friends to balance out the grouping)
