Years of Thankfulness...

My favorite holiday is upon us...Thanksgiving!  It is full of traditions and many happy family memories.  It is also a time for us to share with our children the rich heritage of this nation and the importance of never forgetting it..

Fourteen years ago, my family started a "runner of thankfuls".  Every year, after our meal we go around and tell what we are thankful for.  After, the person has shared it with the family, they write it on the runner in the middle of the table.

So this year, when I pulled it out, I read all the many things that have been written on this runner.  Fourteen years of blessings from our Lord Jesus...fourteen years of answered prayer and guidance...

My second grader was reading the runner while I was setting the table and saw one that I had written about 8 years ago.  It said "I am thankful that my daughters ecezema is clearing up."  She was horrified that I had written that.  But, I explained to her how the Lord really healed her b/c she had one of the worst cases that Cleveland Clinic had every seen.  I remember that Thanksgiving like it was yesterday.  I was so giddy b/c I could take pictures of her and her face looked so healthy after months of never taking pictures during her first year.  It was exciting and we were finally on the road of recovery.

As I read some of them, they bring tears to my eyes because I am so blessed in so many ways.  Looking at all these "thankfuls" throughout the years, just brings many verses to mind that my Lord Jesus Christ carries me through the day and the months and the years...He will never leave or forsake me.

It's a wonderful keepsake but more importantly it's a wonderful reminder of the goodness and blessings in your lives.

I love that tradition. It allows you to be thankful for the now and also look back at how God has blessed you in the past.
PS - did you have comments turned off for a while. I kept trying to comment but couldn't find the comment button. Anyway - I was glad to see it again!

what a great idea! I don't have many Thanksgiving traditions, but I really like this one. Maybe I'll "borrow" it :)
